Dear Community,
The gearbox on my Audi TDI 1.2 is broken, and I need to replace/fix it.

1. My current options are to a. find a used gearbox or b. sell the car to an enthusiast who can use it as a spare part.

So questions: Where would I best find one, and in case I would like to sell my car without the repair:
Where would I go to sell the car to an enthusiast who can use it as a spare?

The Car is located in the South of Sweden, in Båstad. It has 270000 km on the meter,.

I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Best

Hej Erik
There used to be a Lupo 3L/Audi 1.2TDI specialist in Uppsala, called Eko-bilar, but the owner closed it (2021?).
At that time he could renovate these gearboxes and he might be willing to take such jobs still, as long as it is taken out of the car.
I am too a Swedish 1.2TDI owner btw.

Yes the best thing to do in your situation is to call up all your local gearbox specialist they might be able to fix it. What's actually wrong with it? Which gears won't go in?

I thought it was a standard box with an automatic shifter on the top??
If that is the case it woke very easy to source from a polo, fabia etc.

It is. However the issue is often not with the box but the ancillaries and mainly because diagnostic tools (including VCDS!!) don’t actually pick up the transmission issues so it’s a case of ‘hunt the fault’. Which is not as fun as it might sound. Ask me how I know…… 🤯

Roughly you are right. But the gear ratio is quite different, and to save weight things were tweaked compared to the std man box: hollow axles and i think also holedrilled gear wheels.
Wow! It was different then, I wonder if a standard one would fit or could be used, say if it were a syncro problem etc….

and then specialized electronics to deal with the hydraulics and other fun put in place to automate the shifting. So things like a GGE ("GetriebeGrundEinstellung") need MUST be run on a regular basis to make sure that all the bits know where the other bits are. But it's still a gearbox. It's a bit like a boat in that it could be much fun and super cheap, but you really should know a good mechanic or be prepared to get your hands dirty or it's going to be expensive, and even then the mechanic may not be able to help. Specialization really helps with the 1.2s. There's a couple of real gotchas in there...
