New personal best MPG.

I'm running 17's, and since the end of January have only been doing short local journeys and am averaging 49mpg. Occasionally I will consciously think about my driving style and improve the instant mpg readings then I get bored and return to just driving the car to enjoy it.

Still can't get used to taking a month or more to refill my car rather than the twice a week I was doing.

The colder weather doesn't help the diesel MPG. Nice it's warming up now.

I got 78mpg for the trip driving back from A2 Cars in Milton Keynes this week. Think my 6th gear was contributing nicely there!

I'm joining your Fuelly to find out what average I have, I bet it will be the worst average ever :)

Cheers,
D

Nice one. Fuelly turns you into an MPG obsessive, be warned!

It does. I get a bit cross if the other half fills up and forgets to note/reset the milage.

Ours is going back up as the weather warms up. Back above 60 for the first time this year.

I'm more curious about the real average, since I'm not sure the numbers I see on the display are real. When I messed up the fuel pump gauge a few times, every time I plugged the battery back, the numbers were different, I had 6.6 l/100km on the display since I replaced the pump :)

As long as it's under 10 l/100km, I'm good :)

Cheers,
Darko

Wow. that's good. I can only vaguely remember what 78mpg looked like on my Fuelly log. Last time I got that it was September last year. Humph.

Thanks to spring & the mini 'heatwave', finally the first decent tank of this year.

577.4 miles, 32.84 litres (vented & brimmed), 79.9 mpg calculated (80.8 on the DIS). Could have got it to 600 if I wasn't so paranoid about running dry  (There was probably another 35 miles in it, but the motorway here has contraflows and no hard shoulder so absolutely not worth the risk).

At last I've had the opportunity to test out the fuel economy on my new TDi... 65 mpg - very pleased with that and worth changing my signature strip from fuelly which currently shows 35 mpg in the FSi

Drove Leeds to Bristol and returned at the weekend. One tank of fuel and no other non-motorway driving. Unfortunately on the way home, I was stuck on the M5 for two hours so although most of the time the engine was switched off, there was an element of creeping along at a very slow speed. Love the TDi experience

Loving that positive feedback.
Glad you are happy Hillary, after your "incident"

welcone to the TDI appreciation society. Not meaning that there is anything wrong with a petrol A2 in the least.

I like both but for different reasons.

Great work Tom that's amazing!
Just think with all that great economy you'll be able to wizz down to Leigh on Sea and do all your retrofits and be back home for tea all for a tenners fuel lol!
P.s the kettles on with biscuits supplied if you fancy it lol
Edit! Just realised I'm quoting something at the start of this thread, apologies everyone!
Cheers jeff

Hi fellow A2'ers. This year has been the first year that i have kept 15" alloys fitted for the summer after the winter months. But one thing has come to light---the increase in MPG helped by the warm weather. I have always noticed about a 5MPG loss with my 17" QT alloys with 215/40/17. This last week was my best as i did 502.2 before the bong and filled up at 523 miles with 41 litres. Thats 58 mpg amazing from a 1.6 FSI with 144k miles. This coming weekend the 17's go back on as I'm fed up with poor handling. So we will see now how much it drops. Thanks mike

Got my best ever tank today - average (according to fuelly) of 72.7MPG :)

I've been back doing my 40mile daily commute for the last few weeks now, and most of it is motorway (M4, 1jctn M25, 1jctn M40). There's been less traffic than usual (I guess with the summer holidays?) and for this tank I've been pretty happy to keep the speed to 55MPH too to maximise economy. Have to say I'm well pleased with the result! I'm pretty certain the 6th gear has had an impact too though as at 55MPH the engine's only turning about 1600RPM, so it's keeping the revs nice and low.
