Hi all, I've bought a 2001 a2 1.4se 144k, yeah a lot unfortunately, a week ago, after my amazing Puma failed its MOT and would've been too much money to keep it :(:(

I've never really considered an Audi before, due usually its an expensive brand maintenance wise as well, but after a long search, and a failed one week Pug 207 "ownership", this silver a2 looked one of the best options.

After my Puma was sold 2 days ago :( I started to pull myself together today to see what's the a2 is about.

Today got the oil changed, there was a green goo kinda thing in the reservoir, which stressed me out a lot due it could've been the head gasket , but fortunately today turned it was just condensation due it was sat for a month or so. So that's good.

I saw oil around the 4th spark plug, but mechanic said it nothing biggie, rocker cover probably needs changing around summer or so, all cost around £150.

Little bits and bobs, but considering age and milage not bad condition.

When searching around I've already found a few answers, but I couldn't find this: The OSS doesn't work of course, been disconnected, not sure how exactly. Is there any way to open and close the roof manually though? Thanks

The OSS was not designed to be operated manually albeit It is possible to shut it manually in case it gets stuck open, but to do this you have to remove the overhead light panel.

Thanks Beagles and I'll contact him.
I'm trying to find infos about changing the spark leads, as they come apart from the joint during pulling off...fortunately they go back and work fine, but the mechanic was concerned when I explained this to him. So they needs to be changed. The idle speed is a stable 650 rpm, can I adjust this manually or changing spark leads and plugs might cure this? Cheers

Sylvester, we can fix the roof with an exchange unit. Drop a PM when ready. The basic service is £418.

Hi, I was about to message you today to ask about the roof. Previous owner said it was disconnected before she bought it, so been years, so not sure what's the issue, if its the motor, or cables etc. How can I check what's wrong and see what's need fixing? Thanks

If you remove the interior light moulding there should be an allen key clipped to the top of it, use this to open the roof manually. But, I would bet a large sum of money that the cable ends are snapped and it will not move. This is usually the case and an exchange roof is required. We do the whole job, removal and fitting, for £418 including parts. We are in Staines near heathrow.

I'll have a look thank you, but probably you're right it's gonna be the cables. I'm definitely interested and would like to sort this out before summer of course. I live down the South, but planning to go to London around April anyway, so I'm gona save your contact info. How long would it be? Do you need the car over night? Also I want to remove the blinds as well, can I do that with closed oss without destroying it or it needs to be open? Thanks

No special tools required beyond the basics. You'll need an extension bar to reach down to the spark plugs. I put a thin smear of copper grease on the threads of the new plugs, and fitted them with a torque wrench.

Welcome to the club Sylvester.
The OSS in my view is one of the best features of an A2 and definitely worth fixing.
Hot sunny weather is only just around the corner after all...

If you come up to London, just come to our place and we'll drive you to the train station (or wherever you want to go) and the car will have a replacement roof in three hours. Its 30mins to Waterloo on the train from Staines.
We can remove the blind no problem, the roof needs to be open for that. However, bear in mind that the blind frame holds the roof lining up and it may sag if removed.

Welcome aboard Sylvester, I have a Puma and an A2, both great cars.
Good luck with your new car, post a photo if you have one ?

Here's my FRP...

I've got tools to get spark plugs out, but have you tried NGK ones before? Most people say they're better and they pre-copper coated as well, part number should be this: bkur6et10, thanks

A2 is just a light silver colour one, I was viewing a blue one as well, preferred that colour but there were quite few issues with it, no tuning so far, but soon I'll plan to add bits and probably post few pics then.
