Heu - Misano Colour Storm TDi 75, OSS

It is normally spilt fuel, petrol or diesel, that causes the paint to lift off the plastic and the colour storms are more fragile due to a lack of lacquer on the black paint , may be worth getting the paint shop to satin or matt the arch after painting.

My CS offside rear arch has the exact same problem in pretty much the exact same place. I am undecided as to whether to repaint as factory or take the opportunity to paint all the arches in Misano Red, leaving the rest of the CS black details as factory . . I've spent the best of part of a year trying to decide!
@Muska @steaman just for your reference guys I screenshotted this a while ago and is a reverse of what you’ve suggested but I really like the idea

New update :)

I've been buying a few parts since my last update and I now have a nice selection of parts scattered around the house and garage. If only the Wife shared my love for decoration with A2 bits!

A2 MFSW from @A2Steve in lovely condition
Two sets of rear electric windows, one with great thanks to @Proghound who has collected them from @Sarge for me. Ian, I am in your debt at ADI this weekend :)
Handbrake tray in Soul black (had this for Bert originally)
Full set of mud flaps.

All this will be fitting in the future, some parts sooner than others.

So, onto the real point of this update, Sunday just passed I drove down and paid a visit to @Kleynie and his son Adam for the fitting on the fully refurbished OSS Adam had been working on for me. Originally I had designs of keeping the original panel as it's a low mileage car, and I'm really glad Adam talked me out of it when he had a really nice condition roof in as on removal of mine there was rust the the steel panels at the front and rear, which also explained why I'd needed the blower on the screen at all times since purchasing the car.

So, after arrived about 10am, I was very kindly dropped near the local shops where I amused myself for a few hours which the guys worked on the roof exchange and I was kept updated with regular pictures throughout the removal/refit process:

Adam was extremely knowledgeable about the OSS, explained loads about the process to me, gave me some great advice on maintenance and use going forward, while also mentioning that my OSS motor is not the strongest, so that's being added to my list of parts to replace (probably next year now) Really really pleased with the job they have done and I'd highly recommend the services if you have an OSS, especially a full refurbishment like I had as from talking with the guys the parts are in very limited supply, I think it was lucky to get them for mine as they're discontinued. So time is definitely ticking on this sort of repair being available.

I had a great drive home (OSS open all the way for nearly 3 hours!) and ticked over 77777 miles just as I got back to Staffordshire :)

In preparation for ADI at the weekend Heu is booked in for a wheel bearing on Thursday and he'll be getting a full clean and polish along with installing a few of the smaller parts I have saved up if I find the time. :) Thanks for reading and see you at ADI if you're going!

I also have a Misano Storm and am considering various paint alterations: I really like this version with the colour coded rubbing strips and mirrors!

Winter wheels and tyres fitted today, my bargain £62 Pepperpots and a nice new set of Michelin Cross Climate+ 185/65/15.

Wheels are not perfect, but for £62... gives me chance to have the original wheels fully refurbished for next year too :)

I have also recently changed all of the front bulbs, LED side lights & OSRAM H3's & H7's. The main beam is a huge improvement, I just have to adjust the main headlight up a bit as it's a little too low to tell at the minute. I have a new battery from VARTA to fit, same 110 as I ordered for Bert as I've been really impressed with it. Finally later this month a trip to WOM is being organised for an oil and filter service, front ARB bushes as they're knocking a little and my mud flaps to be fitted :)

I'm hopeful this will be Heu's last winter on the road so I want to make sure he's in fine condition for it. I'll still try to use the OSS as much as possible, I'm sure anyone who has owned a convertible knows how nice it is having the roof open on a crisp day with the heater blowing on full!

Plans over the winter will probably be gathering more parts, and the next job on my hit list is a car park ding I only noticed today on the front passenger door  and getting my sports seats re-trimmed. I'm still trying to find somewhere to do that for me to a high standard.

Interesting read of yours about your other vag cars the other day. So what is it you love so much about the A2? I know my answer just interested to hear yours especially with your car history.

Just bought a Varta battery for the 2.8 80 cabriolet yesterday, best batteries i've ever used. Your car is coming along very nicely.

Thanks, I feel like I'm making progress, although I have plans to go much further once he's off the road as a daily car. Partly inspired from my time in the RS Owners club, some of the concourse cars were as clean and detailed underneath as the outer body/engine bays. I'd love to do something similar and have the sub frame blasted and powder coated along with everything freshened up. Then similar with the engine bay...They're longer term plans I suppose.

As for why I love A2's so much, I suppose it started from an engineering point of view. I think they're a very clever car, being one of the first production all aluminium chassis (it was A2 & A8 if I'm remembering correctly) I really like the features like not having to remove the bonnet for oil/dipstick/screenwash, the locators in the C pillar internal trim for the seat belt buckle. The rear space with seats removed is remarkable, so quickly changed into mini van proportions! The webasto heater is something I only learned about from my first visit from Tom, but again is another engineering choice that has further peaked my interest.
I bought my first as I wanted something economical and relatively cheap to run and I've amused myself no end on my commutes trying to best my MPG figures over a tank! From looking at my previous car history it's probably clear I like a drivers car, and while an A2 doesn't offer the best ride or best performance it does have something special that I can't quite put my finger on, soul perhaps. When I drive mine it feels special (to me) not in the same way an M3 on empty B roads does but driving what I believe to be an automotive piece of history, I think they're massively overlooked and should in my opinion be a future classic. I hardly ever bump into another on the roads, even now. This community has been a big draw too, very friendly and eager to help and parts & retrofitting service are still reasonable :)

Sorry for the wall of text! o_O

No need to worry was a good read!

Like you we bought ours hopping for a cheap runabout, little did we know how the A2 would get under our skin and the need / want to shell out to get the cars the way we want them. Agree with what you mentioned above and this forum is a great place. For me i love the driving position yet despite the tallness the handling on the sport models is very neutral and a joy to drive. The A2 steering feels very positive and the A2 just feels right with a certain something that's difficult to put ones finger on.

Keep up the good work. ?

Indeed, no apology necessary for the wall of text, it reflects my sentiments well. I smile every time I drive mine, partly due to the depronman remap and partly because it does what I need it to so well. I see fellow A2s weekly(though don't often receive a reply to my wave/flash).
Car looking great, the community here makes ownership so much easier and involved.

Today I took Heu along to WOM for an oil service and front ARB bushes. Well, that's what I thought following the advice of a local garage who replaced a wheel bearing for me. The guys at WOM spotted that they were fine and it was my drop links causing a slight knock, they managed to supply some Meyle HD drop links on the spot and fit them for me :)

Superb service a great price, I really recommend them :)

That's my winter prep plans complete for now, back to gathering parts

An R32 has been on my radar for quite some time as a car to own one day and I absolutely can't wait to pick it up! Will be taking over daily driver duties from Hue, allowing him to be garaged and to keep his mileage down a little as I do lots in a year. Some might think this is a little backwards driving a 6pot hatch daily and locking my little 3 cylinders away! ?

I've already had a look at the R32OC and it's not a patch on this club, so fear not, you'll not be losing me to them just yet!
In other news, Hue has a full Bose kit waiting for install along with a host of other bits but there is no great rush at the minute, he's off to WOM at the end of the month for a little maintenance work, while I rebuild the funds a little and get cracking on my plans for him this year :)

I’m afraid it’s not as good as trusty A2 knowing that what car is better than a A2 ?;)

Today Heu got a thorough detailing in preparation for Stanford Hall tomorrow. I started at 08:30 and finished at 13:00!

Pressure Wash
Bilt Hamber wheel cleaner - Dwell, agitate with soft brush and rinse
Bilt Hamber snow foam - dwell for 5 mins then rinse
2 Bucket wash method - Meguiars shampoo & lambs wool mitt
Pressure washer rinse
Bilt Hamber clay
Pressure washer rinse
Dry with a Kent drying towel
Dressed all trim, arches & tyres with Meguiars Endurance tyre gel & buffed off
Polished with AutoGlym Super Resin Polish - had to get the wife to help with this bit as it was switching between quite sunny and looking like it might rain at any minute!
Pressure wash rinse
Gyeon Wet Coat sealant sprayed on & pressure washed off
Dried with another Kent drying towel.

Just had time to get him back in the garage before the rain started spitting

In other news, Heu had a visit to WOM a couple of days ago for a slight oil leak & a new thermostat & temp sensor, superb service from WOM once again, couldn't be happier ?

Looking forward to seeing lots of you at the show tomorrow!

I may as well give up cleaning my CS ready for tomorrow it will never look as good as yours!! See you tomorrow

Updates with Hue have been a bit slow of late as I've been ill for the last few months but today he had his MOT (I've almost owned him a year now) he passed with flying colors requiring only a number plate bulb. Which of course unearthed the famous rusted beyond use screws so new lenses and stainless screws have just hit my order list for the near future!

I also had a package from @Rickmeister with my parts from Audi Tradition.
48061951521_b5d1bb9c41_c.jpg

A HUUUGE thanks to Rick for everything, an absolute pleasure to deal with :)

These will form part of the rear end refresh I'm going to do, there is a scratch near the A2 badge currently so I'm going to remove the current badges have the tail gate touched up/painted and refit. Also, where the spoiler seal has blown there is staining behind the rear glass, I did look into a new rear glass/spoiler but the cost is a little more than I can afford at the minute, perhaps next year. For now I'll remove the glass and re seal it once cleaned out. Also if possible I want to split off the lower rear tailgate panel to give everything a really thorough clean/detail. @A2Steve I think you may have removed a tailgate glass before, any tips for removal/refitting and what to secure it with?

At the end of the month my original sport wheels are going to be refurbished, I was so smitten with @Special edition wheels at Stamford Hall I can't wait to get mine done! Once I have them back I'll be ceramic coating them and most likely selling the Pepperpots now the car wont be used in winter. I'll likely get them refurbished first so they're nice and mint for someone.

That just leaves me with a small mountain of parts in the house to have fitted... ?

@Muska Just out of pure curiosity, how much would a new rear glass + spoiler cost?

Thanks to rick from me also. Tried to get the a2 badge also but a combination of me not knowing the part number and also a misunderstanding of me asking for the 1.4tdi badge plus "the a2 badge" which I think rick thought I meant as the TDI badge! :)

@Muska for future ref what's the part number of the a2 insignia badge itself?

Cheers
