The Definitive Suspension Parts List

Hi all,

Recently had my rear suspension done with my local indie and the list was very helpful in making things easier. Thought I’d post parts used and parts that have been superseded which have an S at the beginning.

I stuck to OE springs from Audi/TPS and used Monroe shocks on my SE which, as mentioned above have changed from E1308 to SP376036 (Monroe OESpectrums)

Parts used for rear:

Springs OE x2 = 8Z0511115BA

Pipes x2 = 1J0513425A

Spring upper seats/underlay x2 = 1J0512149B

Lower seats/underlay x2 = 8Z0511149A

Bumper stops/buffer x2 = 6Q0512131B

Hexagon Bolts x2 (goes thru shock) = SN90517304

Nuts x2 (tightens the above) = N10286110

Bolts for shock absorber mounts x4 = N90648402

Shock Absorber mounts x2 = 1J0513353D

Top Protective Cap x2 (sits on mount) = S1J0512135A

Bolts for shocks = SN10403702 (not required if comes on shock)

Parts & labour all in under £500, can’t complain!??;);)

I had the rattle/knocking at the back which was due to the mount having play but now its gone and the ride is much more softer/cushiony.

Nice1.

Nice write up and useful info for this forum ..nice one ..

So trying to get hold of front sports bump stop and boots in a hurry due to an mistake on my part. Seems to be boot and bump stop kits available non oem but it's hard to tell whether they are sports spec or not. Has anyone got some part numbers or links to the kits...or indeed to the parts on their own?

Just to add I'm having issues sourcing the bump stops, at least quickly, at the moment

The front sport bump stops are still available to buy from dealers Scott and are not that expensive. If you give Tom a ring at Crewe Audi and he has them in stock they could be with you by Wednesday. The actual part numbers are listed at the very start of this thread if it helps.

If this part is on back order and you need it urgently I have a new genuine spare one I can send you the morning.....

does anyone know where all the nuts and bolts go , there seems to be a lot of them for the parts being fitted ?

So moved from pro sport coilovers to monroe reflex sport and weitec springs lowered 25/30.

Plus point is definitely much nicer comfort levels not nearly as harsh.

Minus point is that the handling characteristics are much worse. Gone is the go kart feel to be replaced by a feeling like I'm "sitting on top" or over the car rather than in it.

I'll try them out for a good run before I decide next steps. I appreciate this setup may be ideal for some but after being on coilovers for 2 years this isn't what I was expecting...it all feels a bit binary.

How I understand it: progression goes (from stiff to soft):

Cheap Coilovers - B8 - B6 - B4 - OEM - Monroe.

Cheap Coilovers - H&R - KAW - Weitec - Eibach / Abt - B3 - OEM - Spidan

On any of these, if you want wheel control, it needs to be a controlled damper; if you want it to breathe with the road rather than try to hammer it into submission, you need good dampers and softer springs. If you don't want the roll, add the ARBs. Other than that, the wishbone mounts, the dogbone and the ARB collars are all good points to try to reduce squidge as they will all contribute significantly to it. They'll also be worn after x thousand miles with coilovers.

The coilovers are there to get the drop and not for comfort. So anything else is going to feel "soft"; again, a personal opinion is that you've done yourself no favours with the Monroes in the search for a "sporty" feel. I might be wrong.

If I trade up to b8s and stick with the weitec springs I'm guessing the feel will go a fair way back to coilover feel without the harshness.

It's a lot of cash (again) but I've a feeling I may have to bite the bullet.

Any guidance on what / where to pickup rear arb? I'll stick with current stock front arb for now

The balance front / rear is actually quite important but I understand the desire. The ARB swap isn't complex, just annoying.
Rears should exist from h&r and Whiteline / jabbasport. As it stands I can get the rear to begin to step out on gravel with some provocation.

Mine runs Eibach on b8. It is not particularly compliant at lower speeds but it sure as hell imitates a Gokart with turns taken in third and just lifting..... I will have to take it out to some challenging stuff, it's been too long but the limiting factor is now tyres as they're old and hard. If I remember correctly it will just egg you on for more... Corner speeds can be really high and yet it will soak up the bumps. it works *really* well when empty, less so when full.

Whiteline BWR19Z rear ARB is suitable, awesomeGTi are £146(don't know about postage) or £130ish when on offer on eBay (was down to £125 recently). I bought a used one for <£60 recently. It works well though I haven't put it through its paces yet.

Reasonably ok to fit?

Where would you put the Koni FSD / Special Active dampers in that running order?

I've had another thought...I've got adjustable drop links fitted from pro sport on the medium size. The suspension springs are set as above post 25/30. Not sure if I should be using as is or changing out to standard length or even changing out to meyle...but not really sure if I'll get any benefit.

I've ordered front arb bushes just not sure how much further to take, but definitely looking now at rear arb.
