New member with mature A2

Hello,
I've just joined because of my A2 that I've had from new (well, it was a garage demonstrator) and which is now 17 years old with 110,000 miles on the clock. It's a 1.6 FSI SE and I love it to bits. I realised how attached I was to it when I tried to replace it this year and couldn't find anything I liked as much (and I have really tried!). My local garage has kept it going so far but in the last couple of years they have found themselves out of their depth a bit although right now it seems fine. I would like to know if there is anyone in my area (Harrogate, North Yorkshire) with specialist knowledge of A2s. I would prefer to hang on to it for ever, really! The OSS roof works but only to the first panel opening. I still open it but with some trepidation after reading about the troubles other people have had with theirs. I would love it to open fully again if that could be done without jeopardising the function it still has. I attach a photo of the car on its holidays in Norway. That was in 2008 but it still looks the same - honestly!
Would welcome any help to keep it on the road.
Thank you!
Wendy

If you love your A2 you're in the right place :) Welcome to the club!

Our resident OSS fixer/refurbisher @Kleynie can help you with your semi broken OSS

Looks lovely!

Welcome aboard Wendy! I know what you mean about finding replacements.

You should find the members here to be welcoming, polite and helpful.

To answer some of your points, pretty much the only A2 "specialist" in the country now is WOM Automotive near Stoke, there are others around who know bits here and there, but most of these are owners who specialise in different bits. For example @Kleynie should be able to assist with your OSS issues.

Welcome, Wendy!

As you've already been told, @Kleynie is the man to sort out your OSS. He's probably the only person in the country who offers the service on a professional basis.

WOM are noted for working on A2s, as are Stealth Racing in Southam, but quite a few local independent Audi specialists are happy to keep an FSI on the road, if our experience here in Norwich (where both know what they're doing) is anything to go by, and it sounds as though your local garage will be all you need most of the time.

With your FSI into its second 100k miles, you must already be well aware that the fuel you use is absolutely crucial to keeping the engine sweet, 98 RON as a minimum and be very careful with supermarket blends.

If you have any specific issues just ask here and someone will offer you constructive advice very quickly.

Welcome Wendy,

Also a FSI owner and yours has plenty of life left in it with your miles.

As noted Kleynie for OSS repairs, here is more detail.

Welcome Wendy.

I think we need to start a thread about owned since new (or demo), A2s. There's a few I can think of however a comparitive rarity and it's always great to learn the story behind the car.

Thanks very much. That gives me somewhere to start.

Thanks for useful info. Yes, I've only ever used 98 RON petrol. I'm beginning to wish I'd joined this forum earlier though as it might have saved me a lot of bother over the last couple of years!

Well, it has a long story behind it! No time to write it tonight but I can another day if you really think people will be interested.

That's great. Thanks. I'll contact him.

Welcome to the forum. Looks a lovely car and the same amount of miles as my FSI, Mabel.

There are quite a few of us FSI owners on here and also a few with VCDS scanners to check fault codes. If yours starts to like flashing its Engine Management Light on, shout on here first as there is bound to be a member relatively close by who can run a scan for you.
Hope to get to meet you at a social end day ?
