Wheel bearing removal, driveshaft stuck.

I was close ;)
Thanks for that. I actually thought the rubber gater was called the cv joint and didn't know the cv joint was the threads I messed up. Was sat here crying my eyes out cos I was going to have to spend £60+ on buying the whole drive shaft arm. Man I feel so relieved. Gonna order the cv joint now.

Yeh, I'm gonna take it to a mechanic and get them to smack it out. I'm past trying to do it. Could you please post a link for a cv joint kit. I've tried looking on Ebay but can't find one by j&r

An ebay search for 'audi a2 cv joint' gives a whole host of J&R options at the top of the results (providing you're using an adblocker)

Old cars can test ,sometimes a cup of tea , and a step back work wonders

This is great advice, i remember struggling one time for ages to refit a Yaris gearbox flat on my back, arms aching and cursing no end.

My mum came out and said "come in for a cup of tea and a roll" went back out an hour later and got it back on within a couple of minutes.

I found my drivers side cv joint hub nut missing ?

Need some more advice.
After attempting this job i've realised I could do with an impact wrench because some of the bolts were a nightmare to release.
How will this fare with removing bolts

Am I wasting my money on this or will it make life easier?
Any other recommendation for an impact wrench. I'm looking to buy once so something powerful i assume.

Thanks

I reckon someone tried to do the bearing and then gave up and put it all back together. Isn't that really dangerous though?

Not really. Firstly with that amount of rust there is no way that shaft is coming out of that bearing and certainly not under normal driving conditions
Even if the nut was not present and the shaft come out it can only move a limited amount before it locks up the driveshaft. This will b****r up the cv joints but not really dangerous in terms of bearing failing or wheel coming off etc

I think you are really going to struggle to ever get the shaft out of that bearing
I would start to think about a second hand hub and a new cv joint

What sort of penetrating fluid were you using ?
Id recommend plus gas for this type of jobs.

Looks like they took the single use thing seriously but never bothered to get a replacement nut by the look of the rust on the screw thread etc.

Yes and i guess it means replacing the CV joint now, the job list just keeps growing ?

Tell me about it, what seemed to be a fairly straightforward task has become a nightmare. And I've not even finished one side yet, i'm dreading to see whats gonna happen on the other side.

Took a 30 ton press to it, still refused to budge.
Will I be able to use one off an audi a2 1.6 fsi? Are they interchangeable, mine is a 1.4 tdi.
Thanks

The hubs are the same but the drive shafts are different. The difference may just be the length of the main shaft. You should be able to extract the shaft from the existing outer joint and then you will just need a new outer joint and a replacement hub.
