Newbie with 1.6 FSI Sport (soon!)

It now leaves us all asking 'Why was the EML on?????'?

That at least is easily answered. The last owner appears to have purchased it from Hatfield Audi in 2008, and only had it serviced 4 times in 11 years of ownership! Not good news for any car, but particularly an FSI. This year they traded it in at Hatfield Audi, no doubt intending to run a newer car into the ground. It took Hatfield Audi 3 goes to get it an MoT, so that probably tells you all you need to know.

It has an oil leak (advisories from the last two MoTs and that may well indicate something more terminal than the chronic EML problem. The exhaust is on the way out, and it needs a full service including cam belt etc unless you think that the current seller did the work.

As you can see, there are a lot of members on here willing to help out and do some research at no cost, and happy to make pointers for you, this is by far one of the best forums that I have ever been part of.
I couldn't agree more! Not only it a treasure trove of information, but the quick, friendly and extremely helpful advice I got here is absolutely amazing! I can't wait to learn so much more, and share experiences once I finally get my first A2!
The quick refund scares me as it usually indicates the seller didn't want any hassle, that said, he may be genuine and a really nice bloke by offering such a quick refund.
I guess I'll always ask myself that a little bit, what if he was a genuine bloke, who was just as surprised as me to see the EML. The fact that he said it could be the low fuel, counting on my lack of experience, doesn't bode well for him at all. Other than that he has been absolutely polite and nice to deal with with for most of the time. In the end I chose to listen to people with much more experience and knowledge than me, and stay safe. Nevertheless, I hope that A2 ends up with someone who can give it the care it needs!

Can I also point out your words from earlier

"He said he knew exactly what the EML was about, it was a minor problem, which he solved by replacing the solenoid valve."

This begs the questions...

1. Why did he say it was caused by the low fuel warning.

2. Why did he not replace the solenoid valve in the first place. I strongly suspect I know the solenoid valve in question and it is a 15 minute job, albeit fiddly, costing £45.
