The quest for the highest mileage A2 and the 200K Club

I’m a huge chunk of mileage off joining the club. Just got my A2 back after it being out on extended loan to a family friend for a couple of years. It’s just turned 150k, although I’ve already put 500 miles on it and it’s only been back a week. :)

188888 miles and counting ? nearly there (200k) and 6k off 100,000 miles of A2’ing best car I’ve ever owned.

Yes
If you can do timing belt change not much more to it, if preventative maintenance and the crank gear is ok
A few special tools needed buy , borrow or make
Philward did a step by step guide
Considerably less hassle than replacing the engine we just caught ours in time , failure was imminent
Thanks :)

I noticed Febi do 2 kits, one just chain and tensioner, the other with replacement sprockets too, did you do just chain/tensioner and keep original sprockets?

I’ll have a search for the guide!

Thanks :)

It depends, on most cases the sprockets shouldn’t wear, but if the chain is loose it will hook the teeth. We I did mine at 180k it looked almost brand new. And really didn’t need replacing

I’ve had my A2 for 5wks now and have done 3500miles, and expect to do another 1k/wk for the next 5 wk’s, are you guys hitting big lifetime mileages still clocking high yearly miles now?

I thought that was the point of the thread? Regular new additions to the roll of honour in post 1.- Andy

Sorry @Andrew I'm not sure if you understood my question or if I cant understand your response :=)
Should I review the previous 15 pages and try and work out how many miles / year each person is doing?
Or is there a presumption that most cars have been owned for a long time by people with a consistent usage?
