There must be another suitable oil dipstick

The dipstick in my 1.4 AUA was broken since purchase which was back in February. When I got there to sort it out, I ordered the printed ends from like many of you did, which worked for most, but unfortunately that didn't help me. The first package didn't fit well, the next order got stuck at first try checking the oil level, and when I tried it again, the end snapped off at once..maybe my fitting technic wasn't the best, but anyway the point is right now I got the whole end stuck 80% down the oil level check hole, which was then blocking the yellow top to sit properly. The stick didn't go down more and I was in a hurry, so I cut the dipstick half to fit and drove off. Fortunately looks like it doesn't affect the car, cause its either still stuck in the hole or its in the oil filter already.
I gave up fixing the dipstick, it's cut in half anyway and now just looking for a new one or replacement.
I knew they are ridiculously priced, even compared to Mini Cooper dipstick which is like 5 quid, and the cheapest A2 starts from 20 and goes 40 easily. Bit pathetic to be fair, but anyway, the question is as the mechanic said it's the same petrol engine as WV Polo 1.4 AUA, I was wondering if that dipstick would be good as well? Or any other make which fits the A2? Thanks

As the polo doesn't have a service flap doubt that would work
Unless u replace entire outer tube etc + willing to remove bonnet each time to check

there is a hole for the polo dipstick, it's been covered before.

EDIT: the BBY, I think, has this. AUA no. Some engines have the relevant hole. And you can also read oil level via VCDS / OBD11 / Carport.
8z0 115611G is the original AUA version, that's nice and orange.

It is a shame the A2 can not be upgraded to the "conventional dipstick". do not believe an electronic stick would help here as there is no display in the car. Strange you were having issues with Pauls excellent replacement ends. Are you sure you have the correct dipstick for your engine? Can not speak for all engines, but I think I wipe away more oil than the engine uses / loses between services and now only check the level after a service and every month - six weeks afterwards. As far as "aftermarket" sticks are concerned since no other engines utilised the service flap they will generally be more rigid and too short for the A2. I would replace the whole unit both inner dipstick and outer guide from another A2 1.4 AUA. When you get the replacement compare to the one already fitted to see if anything is obviously different including length - difficult now it has been cut.

@bretti_kivi Agreed in VCDS block 004. I suppose it is just as quick to hook up the scan as it would be to remove the bonnet to read a Polo dipstick. Not sure if OP has access to scan or wants to still waste oil by wiping the stick.;)

With an AUA there are two possible dipsticks - early (8Z0 115 611 G) and late (8Z0 115 611 R) - the serial number is stamped into the handle end. Do you know which one you need?

The early one has a round neck moulding immediately below the handle. The late one is rounded but has a V-shaped end to the handle neck moulding that locates into a similar V-shaped slot in the end of the dipstick tube - and obviously these are not interchangeable. The problem is that BBY and BAD ones look identical to the R (same handle) but are a slightly different length so cannot be used in an AUA as they won't read the correct depth. Unfortunately the late AUA model is by far the most expensive and the least easy to get hold of - G model ones (and most of the other models for Tdis etc.) are ~20 quid on Ebay, whereas the R ones are usually close to £40 (there is one on Ebay for 35 quid freepost from Latvia which is about the cheapest I've seen).

Incidentally, if your car is one of the earlier ones with the unused second dipstick tube at the back of the engine block, there are links for the parts diagrams for this in comparison with the A2 on the following thread -

I can't really check the oil level with the stick as I mentioned the ordered end snapped off half way in the hole, so even if I had an intact dipstick it wouldn't go all the way to the bottom :/ I've got VAG401 but 004 is the engine speed, voltage, coolant temp and intake air temp, can't see any relevant to oil level.

The local garage also snapped my dipstick off and half of it was left in the tube. It was one of the later fibreglass one’s for the aua petrol engine. The solution was to remove the dipstick tube assembly and poke the broken parts out. I then replaced the funnel and the dipstick with the earlier one which is made of steel cable and is much stronger than the fibreglass one. You do need to cut the ball off it to make it fit as it is in a different place.

For AUA the polo dip stick works perfect ...just take out the lock where you pump out the oil and install the dip stick instead, 5 minutes

Dipstick: 030115611R (ca. 8€)
Funnel: 030115636A (ca. 2€)

These are Audi prices, aftermarket is much cheaper

Okay thanks, that's good it won't cause issue to the engine, that's would be just disaster.

I'm not sure where's that lock is, where the oil should be "pumped out", I thought oil change just unscrew filter on bottom and remove screw, but I'll have a look as the website has more details too, cheers

In Elsa it says, that this tube is for pumping out the oil, if you do it the quick way without loosening the screw (not recommended to do so)

Here you go
