Check your front suspension arms people

The TRW/Lemforder arms are cast, as they have left on the riser stubs... where air escapes from the mould when pouring.

I'm not in any position to argue (nor do I wish to), below is why I 'understood' them to be forged...

Question I have just purchased from Cronus a pair of lemforder cast arms part numbers 27034 and 27035 but looking online it says not suitable for the tdi models ..they give the following 27036 and 27037 for them ?? can anyone confirm they are different and why is it ...

The physical shape will be the same but I understand the bushes may be different on the diesels to cope with the heavier engine. If so I'll have to do something about one of mine, which for reasons of expediency is currently sat on a secondhand arm from a petrol car on one side after the balljoint went.

As proghound mentioned the difference is the heavier duty bush on the desiel arms, so if anyone has the 1.4 or 1.6 petrol would a nice upgrade in the handling stakes.:p

Took me a while to get to this result but yes I have ordered a couple of the heavier duty bush ...thanks again to Cronus good deal joe ?

Was just pricing up lower arms the other day as the boots on my ball joints on my forged arms are slightly deteriated, sure euro/carparts4less had forged arms listed but not only pressed ones and associated ball joints and bushes, all very strange!

Last time I looked TRW on e.bay have them £95 each they are lemforder..but didn’t see any for diesel ..you can buy the diesel bushes cheap enough and swop over ..
Or bestpartstore.co.uk have TRW at £115 and lemforder at £122

TBH I put petrol ones onto mine recently and enquired about changing the bushes to diesel and its not a small piece of work. I'll make do with the petrol bushes on mine for now on my tdi90 not really sure how failing bushes will manifest...

I’m not sure what can be involved more than pressing one bush out and one in ? I would be interested in knowing what else can be in it ..this picture came from an earlier post by Simon

on this forum you can see the differences in the tolerances..

Hopefully not, just checked the QH Arms cross reference with TRW JTC1125 and 6 as opposed to the JTC1140 and 41 that I've already fitted. My confusion is that the 25/26 are listed on webcat.zf.com as fitting ATL which audi.7zap.com suggests uses the same arms as the others.
I'm now convinced that I have no idea what's going on. ?
I'm going to let the order progress though please accept my apologies, they might not be correct. I'll update as soon as I have conclusive evidence.

Mine were fitted last week and they are totally fine. The pressed steel ones they replaced are structurally sound. Just surface rust. I'll rub them down and paint them. Do fine as spares or to pass on to someone else.

Good afternoon all! Alison is having a 5 Years Anniversary Present. New 'Arms, Front Springs and Top Mounts. Also CV Inner Gaiters are being replaced (as everything else is off at the front)...

Looking forward to getting her back tomorrow! Using the train has got rather "old"... ? ?

I decided to leave the new Oss one for another few weeks ..so parts bundle I have just bought I will prioritise my good ladies ..still ordering parts for the oss..but Sally’s is now booked in on 27th I got meyle control arms for £67 each e bay (dusty blue) I thought that was a bargain she does far more miles than me and those hollow control arms worry me ...so along with full suspension rebuild ..geometry cq & service ..as a treat leather steering wheel ? ..I have now the lemforder control arms for the oss as they're correct bushings

So, is it still a case of cast arms being a suitable replacement for pressed on TDi90s? Are Meyle ones a decent buy? Looks like they're still £67 on the auction site and bushes are around a tenner each from dusty789blue. I presume no-one has found a cast alloy version yet?

I have just had fitted the new meyle cast arms on my tdi but I had also in the garage a new pair of lemforder for the petrol (different bushing ) and to be totally honest the meyle felt a comparable quality ball joint felt as tight ..less than 1/2 price ..the solid are definitely heavier than the pressed and with all new bilstein shocks and springs ...an unwanted side effect it seems more road noise is transmitted into car I didn’t say anything to sally but she confirmed the same ..almost like a resonance (hum) not really annoying but it’s there .

Thanks for the info. I've ordered some of the QH type as mentioned previously along with Lemforder bushes for the TDi, as well as the press tool.

Just need to try and see if I can do the job without dropping the console now - certainly won't be this weekend with work and the storm we've got forecast, but hopefully, I'll tackle things next weekend as we need to car back in action.
