Is there an A2 Genius Near Ely/Chatteris

Hello ;-)

I am wondering if there is a knowledgeable forum member that lives near Ely that would be willing to take a look a my A2 pair. Really just to get an idea of whats good and what needs working on.

Having become rather disillusioned with my local Audi/VW specialist as they clearly don't know anything about the A2, I tried another Audi VW specialist with much more success and happy with their work and they have been very helpful however they have admitted they rarely see an A2 and don't have all that much inside knowledge of them either. They can't solve the current niggle.

I know nothing about cars, so an old hand who can look just pass an eye over them would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks audifan,

Issue sounds much the same as another thread running currently. Needing to turn over and over before starting, when it does start it kind of judders as it fires up.

It did require a fuel pump after it wouldn't start in a car park, and there was some suggestion that the fuel line could have been the issue but the they tested that and all was fine. The issue comes and goes, I only use the car once a week so the first start is normally the worst.

They didn't seem to thing some of the suggestions from the other thread were likely but as I say they admit to not knowing much about the A2.

I'll monitor it for a few weeks and then take it back with a list of things from the other tread to look at and try ;-)

Stanadyne appears to be the best after a quick Google search. I’ll get some and try it on both cars.

Thanks. :)

Yes as Audifan said fuel filter change is recommended, my A2 had very high like 25mpg, no kidding, as it was kept on driveway for 6 months before I bought it. I put 2 bottles of fuel system cleaner in which only helped as long as I kept refilling it, but the new fuel filter was the best way. Now I get around 40mpg, which might not be great but mine is 1.4 petrol and only use it in town really, so I guess that's not bad.

Thanks Sylvester. :)

I will try the cleaner and get the fuel filter changed.

They are under the car by the rear wheel? Looks like they are different on both cars.

I think I had a fuel filter changed when the fuel pump was changed. My MPG is currently around 54 on my recent longer journeys.

No problems, that mpg not bad I guess, if the filter was changed just leave it then, but if not good idea to get it done. Perhaps you'd have a VAG scan done, even if EML isn't on I presume, that scan could show what the issue is.

The garage did a scan, and nothing showed up except a brake light switch fault and they replaced that, hence their head scratching ?

The injector clean is a good place to start.

Thanks again ?

The fact that an Audi / VW specialist rarely if ever sees an A2 should make little difference to the quality of the service, since the A2 shared most of its mechanicals with the Polo.

My first thought was that your earth connection was may be starting to corrode. Unlikely, but it's easy enough to check yourself, there are plenty of threads here that cover it. How old is your battery?

More likely is that your exhaust is well past its best. If it's choked up with carbon, you can clear that with a lengthy run in a lower gear than normal. But there's also likely a fair deal of internal rust, and the only cure for that is a new exhaust.

I'm in Norwich, but I'm coming over to Kings Lynn in a week or so to meet up with another A2 owner. I'm sure you'd be welcome to join us if you wanted. I'll have VCDS with me so we could scan whichever car you came in.

Hi Firstly... I have used Quatrotec at St Ives a couple of times. Good chaps. Expensive but less than main dealer of course. I have used WOM at Stoke on Trent and Stealth near Bham which tells you (given home is Cambridge) that I think the pain of distance is worthwhile. Secondly... the main dealer in Norwich overtightened the fuel filter fixing with the effect that the car would not start due to drawing air (nil leak). It had to be collected, taken to Norwich and returned to me with a scratch on the bodywork and an offer from them to repaint the panel. That was early in my ownership of the A2 and taught me the lesson of seeking-out specialists recommended by the club (as above e.g. Teresa). I also mention it because of the correlation in my case between fuel filter change and nil starting. Good luck. atb

Thanks Teresa,

Very generous offer :) I have found the parts department at Norwich Audi very helpful, espeically Kevin.

Thanks, Sounds like Quatrotec is the place to try next. :)

I have noticed that my cars have different filters.

Quattro Tech did my RS3 in Peterborough. Much better than the main dealer Vindis and done to warranty spec. Oh and cheaper. They are all ex Audi master techs and above.
