Sunroof not working after mod :(

but the sunroof was working last week when i tried it and was fine without any suspected crunches/noises etc... it just seems that when i done this mod it doesn't work :/ i hope its not broken :(

I must admit it does seem weird, it's maybe just coincidence, they are ticking time bombs, if it any consolation I've got a Votex kitted 1.4 Sport with red leather, rear electric windows and working OSS for sale at the moment ?

Mate - I applaud your bravery in tackling electrical work.

I’m pretty solid on current path and electronics and I’ve still melted a few things myself.

If you can get access to the motor power output end of the electronics with your multimeter you should be able to check if you’ve killed the switches or controls with your accidental lapse.

I’ve never examined an OSS so no idea how possible that is but if you can find the main power out going to the motor and see if the power goes to 12v when you push the switch then that should let you isolate the problem as being either to do with the electronics or with the motor itself.

Good luck Cammy

I held the switch for 10 secs and I hear more of a slight movement noise from motor but that's it. No clicking after this though!

The fact there's no clicking is a good sign, I've got a switch panel and a motor here but the motor has 5 wires going into it (white, green, grey, blue, purple) in that order so.not a basic live and earth like I said before you're more than welcome to pop across and try swapping bits out to see if we can get it working ?

Ok I have a wiered one here... I manually opened the sunroof with my Allen key and kept my finger on the switch for a few seconds to see if it would click/work, then it closed but does not work after when it's closed :/

Icowie if it has the same specs as mine then sure ;)

I opened it further manually and it closes with the close button but not the open...does this mean switch is knackered or can this be fixed for the open?

That sounds awfully like a faulty switch to me but it could well be the motor as well

Yours is only a 4 seater.....mines is bench. Although I would kill for that paintwork and body kit :p

My new Pine green Tdi Sport is a 5 seater with black leather it looks lovely but I still prefer the alcantara in Flipper ?

No, by using the Allen key, you disable the calibration, so if you have used the Allen key, you need to calibrate again using the same method. After you calibrate, it will never open first time, it can take 5 or more clicks to get it to open, but after that, it is calibrated and will work normally assuming it's OK.

I tried the same 10 second method....all I hear is the motor making a noise for a second then nothing....i don't get a click after 9 seconds or so. Am I doing something wrong?

Unless you have damaged the open side of the switch or its wiring @Kleynie has explained exactly what to do and the fact it may not work immediately.
Shut roof, hold shut for 10-12 seconds then release. Press open once then press again and hold the button down, wait for 10 seconds if it does not open repeat. Do all of this with the engine running.

correct me if i'm wrong. I press the shut roof (close) button and hold for 10 seconds, wait for a click or motor noise, release, then i press the open button once, release, then press the open button again for 10 seconds? if i got this sequence correct then it's not working for me. I've tried several times but no luck. I guess my only option is to try a swap and see if it remedies this situation. I might have to pay you a visit icowie but i will contact you via PM and take it from there.

even if i do get another switch to test does this mean that because it wasn't calibrated like Kleynie mentions, will i have the same issue with a replacement switch?

Thanks guys :)

Not quite, keep pressing the open button after calibration until the roof moves, for 5-10 seconds each time. You may end up pressing it quite a few times before anything happens.

Did i not buy my rear bench seat from you Johny a few years back?

it's a very strange one to tackle. Assuming i'm doing the correct button presses, i think mine is gubbed :(

Have you tried putting everything back as it was before your er how do I put it "multiplication".

If OSS now works leave alone and find another part to play with..If still not working then you have probably damaged wiring and will have to check it all carefully. The motor works ( at least in one direction, crap band I know ) so all the wiring isn't damaged. Find someone who is more comfortable with electrics and see if they can feed the switch directly to open and close the roof. Don't try anything else in case you cause more problems.
