Just been out in our newly acquired 70 k mile 1.4 petrol with massive service history!and engine management light has come on.Car sounds and runs ok!We have had our 1.4tdi for 15 years without any issues.Serves us right for wanting a car with leather trim, pan roof etc!

I've hardly used either of my A2s during the lockdown period.
I've been using my 1.4 petrol once a week at most for our regular food shopping trip, less than 1m round trip (we only take the car as there's too much to carry).
EM light came on around week 2, but car ran fine. In the last few weeks I've had chance to take the car on a few longer drives, and the light has gone off.
Like A2Steve has said it won't be much. Might just be down to less use.

My 1.4 petrol A2 did more or less what you have and when I scanned it with VCDS and my Launch C reader they both came up with EGR insufficient flow.
If that is the case it was a matter of removing the throttle body and adapter plate and de-carbonising. With mine the adaptor plate was almost entirely blocked both the EGR port and the breather and just regular carbon on the engine side of the throttle body. The air filter side was spotless so there was no indication of the build up from looking into the throttle body.
A good clean and a reset go the EML and no problems since.

That's done it next time I go out more problems will hit me!!!!

Also, if the light is on for a minor fault or one hasn't reoccured, then it is reset after something like 7 starts. It may stay in the ECU history longer though.

Thanks! Know all about warming an engine up!up to couple of years agoI had a F3 race car! it was imperative to warm it up carefully before taking it up to 10500k revs.main problem was it wouldn’t run under about 2000 revs.so you had to keep blipping the throttle.Based on a Ford 105/109e engine!! But it gave about 125. Bhp with downdraught head and Weber carb.
