Number of A2s left in the UK

Came across a website that provides information on every car make/model registered in the UK every year from 2010.
Apparently there are 3k TDIs left in the wild and in recent years we are losing 300 a year. If this is true then the TDI will be extinct within the next 10 years.

Why arent we hearing more about this in the mainstream media?!

Because the demise of old cars is not what they need to push and they only push propaganda like climate and electric cars.
It’s sad because a news feed like that would actually be interesting and informative

Apparently, only just over one thousand FSIs, including those on SORN, if I read it right ...
Mac.

???? I got 1601 for FSI models including SORN.

All this data comes from the DVLA, freely available, acres of it (a new unit of data volume I just invented), start here

Be warned, the more you look at it the more errors become apparent.

I added up the totals for 2010 (but didn't double check) and it came to circa 18,000 and for 2020 at circa 10,400 (I say circa as some numbers are shown as 2.2K for example). This compares to one source giving 18,305 in 2006 (the max) and my own DVLA data from Sep 2005 of 19,009.

Whatever the exact original figure, in round figures we are approaching the 50% left threshold. Sad though it is, I'm sure other cars of the same age are diminishing faster. Well, it would be nice to think that! Maybe someone could take a iron can car that was made at the same time as the A2 but not afterwards, and compare the percentages of those still left.

That’s because before your fix came along people just scrapped them! Your the fsi saviour! Lol ?

@A2Steve - are you really pushing the proboost upgrade / fix via all the facebook groups etc. to get the word out beyond this forum? I fear that too few FSI owners will hear about it in time and otherwise perfectly good cars are being broken up!

No, I’m not advertising it on Facebook at all. I also don’t sell any of my parts on Facebook either. Apart from a few mechanical parts on eBay I stay exclusively A2OC. I don’t mean to sound egoistic, but I see my services as a ‘perk’ to being an A2OC member and so they remain in this domain.

Please feel free to talk about the Proboost map via Facebook though and direct them to the club ??

This subject came up a couple of years ago, and I looked up the percentage survival rate of the first generation Mercedes A class, a direct competitor to the A2. I think that it was around 33% for the Mercedes - shows the quality of our A2s, I'd say.

As a long-term reader of the many Facebook groups peopled by supposed enthusiasts, I have the impression that the overwhelming majority of them just see another cheap old car. Few of them will have paid much more than £500 for their own cars and any suggestion that they are worth cherishing will, I suspect, be met with obscenity strewn derision.
I always refer those who appear to be genuine enthusiasts to this forum rather than waste time writing in sentences in an environment where such a practice creates posts beyond the attention span of most readers.

I just did the Merc A170 again using HowManyLeft and they have reduced by 60% (40% left) from c16,400 in 2010 to c6,600 in 2020. So our A2 is ahead ;)

A2oc has recieved a complaint from a social media group admin citing the above post as offensive.
The post is therefore edited to remove reference to the Audi A2. Whilst it is always encouraging to recieve positive feedback for our club from members, please be aware that comparisons with other platforms may result in objections being recieved ?
Thank you for your support and positive feedback for A2OC. It's appreciated.
