Some questions.

Hello everyone, I have had my drives license for about a week now and loved every moment with my own Audi a2. I have cleaned it from inside and outside, waxed it, painted the windscreen wiper arm which had lost its colour and looked awful. And of course, driven the car a lot?.

So anyways my a2 has the engine light on and it gives OPD code P0401 ''EGR flow insufficient.'' I already replaced the valve (used) and checked the light, but it came back on. What should I do next? I think this problem doesn't really affect my everyday driving at all, right?

The next question might be stupid. There is a knob under the throttle pedal, why? Is it there so you can't floor the gas?

And then to the last question. Some of the buttons look really worn out and ugly. Are there some replacement buttons? I tried painting one with a marker pen, but the colours didn't match at all.

Have a great next week everyone!

did you already clean the throttle body?

the knob is normal, doesn't affect anything (and it's an electronic gas pedal anyway). For the climate and radio - I'd look for an A4 panel and replace the buttons (it's been done lots and looks pretty close) and the same for the radio.

(and yes, i got your message, i've just been away and busy with work...)

Ok thanks, I will be looking for those

I'm going to clean it as soon as I have a little spare time. How much time (about) does the whole throttle body cleaning operation take?

Welcome @Näsä,

Yes, worn buttons completely ruin the look of many A2 interiors. Worth reading this link as it contrains a resume of options you can take for button restoration and other useful posts, in particular a post from TYP 8Z of a new option of which I was unaware.

Unfortunately donor A4 climate units now seem to be nowhere near as common as they once were.

Hi Näsä, You don't say if your A2 a Diesel or Petrol. Mine's a Petrol and I had the same issue. The EGR and tube were clean but the Throttle body and the adapter plate beneath the throttle body were very dirty and both the breather pipe and the EGR port on the adapter plate were almost completely blocked with carbon deposits. After a good clean of both no more warning lights have returned. I can't offer any help Re a Diesel.

I would say about an hour. Depends on what else goes wrong :) there are instructions around on this site and the German forum with pics (it's called "Drosselklappe" in German).
