Your A2 related plans for 2020?

I've invested heavily over the past few years but there is always room to improve.

Some things to enhance the car further (not necessarily all in 2020):
  • Fit the brand new headlights bought earlier this year (swapping over the bulbs from the current condensation happy units)

Is are placing the lights that like a bit of condensation the only way to go? Im going to be changing the bulbs in mine so might need to look for a good drivers side headlight to replace rather than fix.

My A2 plans for 2020 are much as 2019. I plan to drive it, probably 5-6,000 mls.
I'll fix what needs to fixed (in 2019 that was front discs and pads, heater flap motor, and two coil packs).
It'll be due a service around May/June, (it had been done just before I got it in June 2018). Cam belt, water pump etc at the same time.
It shares daily driving with my Mk1 TT, which has a similar plan for 2020, but without the cam belt etc.
Mac.

PS: Heated mirrors would be nice. See where the Crewe Audi group buy goes (or doesn't), otherwise Micks Garage it will be.

I guess there might be other fixes, but I've exhausted the sachets that absorb moisture, trying many permutations and quantities. I've also resealed the seams and still no joy. The only option I've not undertaken is to drill a hole - some say this is good as it lets moisture escape, others have the opposite view.

I'm certainly not based within 50 miles of SE London, but I cover all of London when I'm on my retrofitting tours. I've retrofitted front fog lights more times than I can remember and know the A2's electrics and interior down to the last wire / plastic tab.

Fitting a wired rear camera into the A2 isn't easy. Getting additional wiring into the boot hatch in a way that won't compromise the waterproofing at the hinges requires a great deal of care and a huge amount of the interior trim to be removed.

I always have cruise control systems in stock as this is by far my most popular upgrade.

Cheers,

Tom

Hey @timmus thanks very much for this reply and pointers.

Great to hear about the fog retrofits, I'll DM you about that.

Don't tempt me with the cruise control options ?

Have a good Sunday all.

Same, which is why I do tours rather than single away-from-home jobs, otherwise my time and Earth's resources are spent driving up and down the UK, wearing a groove in the M6. Whilst I am a mobile retrofitter, I'm not 'on call'.

Noted, Ian, and thank you; I was planning on asking you whether my first 2020 tour could include a stay at yours. It appears you'd welcome that, which is nice. I could visit @sciroccorrado on my way south.

Cheers,

Tom
Tom, if you do a south west tour, then mods to do and a bed available here.

I’ve got a decently healthy list, with some checked off already:
Front Fogs - DONE
Cruise Control - DONE
Nicer alloys - DONE
Double-DIN Dash
CarPlay-compatible head unit
Rear parking camera
Replace suspension bushes
Clean throttle body assembly

As we go into a new year and a new decade, what are your plans for your A2 in 2020?

I'll probably go through the ownership of another few in 2020, so I can't really post my plans for any one car in particular.

How about "keep one A2 longer than 6 months" :)

Anyone have any plans for theirs?

Having just joined the A2 owning ranks, and starting with an OSS 54 plate Tdi90, my plan is to fettle and return to tip top working order, but also upgrade:

intercooler, maybe a stealth remap, Hands free telephony and iPlayer music input added to the symphony stereo if it’s possible. Add front fog lamps. Upgrade the horn.

Maintenance and fettling wise, a cambelt & water pump change is first, rear Hubs, brake discs and pads (2nd).... having already done oil and air filters, next is a rad flush and fresh coolant at the same time as the cambelt kit.

Mid term is a DMF clutch, release bearing and guide.

Long term wheel refurbishment and or change- the 17’s seem to ride really quite harshly.

I’ve already begun the led interior lights change, got new pressed metal number plates (waiting on my A2OC plate surrounds, stickers and badge). I will valet the interior, align panels, and mop the paint - maybe even repaint panels as needed.

I want to purchase/find a new engine undertray, And get a full handbook and service wallet to build some history. The one thing it’s missing.
Complete the tool kit too.

it’s a keeper (for now)....

Matt, just to update you on your Shop order, I've now found out how we should go about this particular situation. I'll refund the extra set of surrounds today from my float, and send everything else except the badge, which will follow under separate cover from @Teresa's stock.

My plan is to sit and wait (and hope) that Peter (who bought my “holy grail” decides to sell it back to me at some point.
We have already agreed the price and the money is sitting here (in the bank) but I am hoping that nothing comes up to make me dip into it.

I need the grail back !???

until then I am just keeping the current A2 in great condition

Your current one is lovely anyway!

I'd already done it before you posted Matt, but it went to the personal email you'd put on your order. Just off to the Post Office with your parcel now.

No worries, both emails should work with PayPal.
Many thanks, Ian.
All the best,
Matt
