Insurance cost for A2

We have just insured with nfu,10,000miles fully comp with rac cover for £130 per annum.

How did you get it that cheap? Mine was £245. Should I change my name to Farmer for best prices with National Farmers Union?
I applied on-line, then spoke to their local office. I'm getting old, but still under 70.
My cover is fully comp, social use only, protected ncb, 4000 miles a year, RAC roadside + nationwide recovery.:(

Unless you share a communal driveway with a prison or young offenders institution that would seem a tad high.

I live in the East End of Glasgow and my car is on a busy street and insurance is less than £300 a year for 15,000

I too live in the east end of Glasgow. We should meet up for laughs and A2 talk ?

An inclusive bundle of car insurance and breakdown cover is not always the cheapeat. I have found that breakdown insurance with a breakdown co + car insurance with an insurance co was significantly less pennies than the combined quote from insurances cos. As the Welsh tenor says, (go) compare.
Mac.

I think its to do with where we live, Very quiet area also have 3 other vehicles insured with them

Mine's due at end of month - looked this morning and price ranges from a pretty reasonable £167 & £100 compulsory excess (Darwin) to an unbelievable £782 & £1100 compulsory excess (DoddleCover). Choices, choices...

£318 I got it down to with haggling! 12 years of NCD as well!

Adrian flux and an Axa modified car policy.

Maybe I should have stuck with vanilla instead of adding the spec...

The A2 insurance costs are generally reasonable but I added the full breakdown /recovery cover which then bumped the price up to around £450 which then became pricey. This is as a second car single policy with nil years claims bonus.

Guy as a newbie to the A2OC i have full NCB on another vehicle my daily Abarth & so A2 being second car have had to start off this policy with 0years NCB ok have held a licence for 20+years, so went to Directline & they quoted me £240 & thought that was all ok. But then tried (& its something i never do to be honest ) one of those compare sites & 'money supermarket' & did all the details per directline & out popped Churchill for £151 with free legal cover. I even phoned them up as i didn't think comparison sites pass information on just generic & assumptions but they did & so i went with them. £151 fully comp £100 excess so well chuffed.

Well I’m just jealous. I think it’s a Glasgow East end issue as well.

My wife’s smart just costs £450 in insurance.

Hi Guys,

My renewal just came through from Adrian Flux at £275...is this reasonable with 20+ years NCB? Should i add my wife to my policy as she's had an accident last year and has also had insurance cancelled years ago, which i assume is increasing my renewal. If i don't add her as a named driver is it still ok for her to drive my car via her insurance as a 3rd party?

Cheers

honestly try churchill via 'money supermarket' - i have no affiliation with any of these companies but was amazed at my price!

£275 sounds amazing to me but mine is ridiculously high I feel. Your car is more modified than mine!

Sounds good to me. I'm with Adrian Flux and pay £100 more and I'm just over 70. I have over 5 years NCB (I think most insurers only go back 5 years), and it's modified (like yours - I presume you have declared that along with all the other mods). At the last renewal I added my son who had a minor accident 2 years ago and the premium did not increase.

There are other factors such as location. I tried to look up crime rates for your area and compare to mine but as you are in Scotland they seem to be recorded differently (https://niceareas.co.uk/) . Generally, Wiltshire is a low crime rate county but there are bound to be hot spots and insurers now have data down to post code level.

As I think I stated earlier. One year it went up a lot with AF for no apparent reason. I rang them up and asked them to explain. Of course the call centre clerk has no idea but she rang through to the brokers and eventually came back with a premium even less than the previous year! Worth calling but don't leave it to the last minute as they know you have little time to organise an alternative. Ring 2 weeks before.

I called AF and told them I had a better offer from another provider (which I did) and got a quote £100 lower. Slightly better than the best I had found with the same terms.

I also mentioned that ‘confused.com’ were offering free £250 excess refunds so they provided the same service - which you can then remove from the quote.

I live in a fairly high crime area - it’s East End Glasgow. Nice neighbourhood and area but Glasgow has a large variation in demographic and the areas are all a few miles apart so criminals only need to walk a couple of miles to find the ‘nicer’ areas. Probably the same as any large City.

I maybe tell a white lie and say i'm getting a slightly cheaper quote with a different company and call their bluff :) the renewal quote has went up by £30 since last year. I know it's not a lot but i just can't see how they can inflate prices to obscene amounts like others have stated. I must also state that my wife has her car insurance with AF so you would think that the increase would only be slight.

They will probably cancel my insurance and i will be charged with fraud lol

I will report back....

I didn’t need to lie. I found it cheaper elsewhere. I don’t think claiming to have found a cheaper quote is actually fraud - it’s just lying. You can go anywhere with your business you want and tell them whatever reason you wish for your decisions and that’s not illegal - merely bargaining and bluff.

Insurance tax has increased every year recently by quite a lot apparently so maybe that’s part of it but it all feels like a bit of a scam.

Well having looked at the fine print on my current policy, i did't realise i never had the option to drive other cars as a 3rd party even though i was fully comp. So i've decided to jump ship and go with LVE for £294 (£200 excess), as AF were wanting to charge me £430 for that privilege. I also didn't know that my excess was £450 total eek! so bye bye AF.

I do get the bonus of a £20 voucher for Halfords or Dominos pizza lol so i guess it works out the same :)

Cheers
