Child Seat

I recently purchased an A2 as I needed a more practical car for my small family and I am looking to get a child seat (Group 1 or Group 1/2/3). This is the first time I have bought a child seat and was wondering if any one had any recommendations or any A2 specific advice?

I did search the forum already, but couldn't find anything recent and as these things change as new child seats are released I thought I would ask. I hope that's OK.

I'll also mention that I assume my car has Isofix in the front passenger seat as it has the key slot to disable the airbag in the glove compartment.

Morning,

We have always gone for the BeSafe car seats for our boys. They aren’t the cheapest but they came out best on safety (Which Magazine) when we was investigating this 9 years ago. The cost of additional safety is difficult to put a price on but please don’t go cheap.

These are the seats (Group 1) we had when they were younger. Slightly different now as we purchased ours over 9 years ago but the same seat.

These are the seats (Group 2/3) which we currently have in our A2s whilst the youngest seats to be tall enough to need legally need it anymore. Again the design is slightly different as we purchased these 6 years ago.

These do fit in the A2. The last 2 links above are for John Lewis where you can ask to trial fit them into your car. We purchased direct from the BeSafe UK agency at the time but I don’t think they still have that option. You can’t go wrong with the customer service at John Lewis though.

I’d say never purchase a used seat as you just don’t know what the previous owner has done to them. Safety first!

That said, our youngest is now 122cm talk so only has approximately a year left in the bigger seats and I am happy to donate both of the BeSafe Group 2/3 seats to you next year.

They are both in fantastic condition and the covers remove easily for cleaning. I’m a man of my word and will happily give you our 2 seats FOC when the youngest has grown a few more inches. M

I see you’re not that close to me in Leicestershire but I’m sure something can be arranged nearer the time.

Kind regards,

Tom

On isofix, it’s pretty obvious if you have it. Metal hoops popping out between seat back and cushion. We’ve got car seats in both of mine (in the back) for our (now 2 year old) daughter and had no trouble getting it to fit

I’ve got two of these, reviews are fantastic and they have sufficient height to allow the kids to see out properly. Slightly pricey however it’s ‘money no object’ for the safety of my kids.

Tom,

Thanks for the advice, that group 1 seat looks great.

And thanks for the kind offer on the bigger seats, if you let me know when you are done with the bigger seats we can see what the situation is at the time (we'd probably only need one).

I've seen pics of them, but every time I'm in the car I forget to check.

Just looking at those, the idea of only having to get one seat is appealing. Although I suspect I'll have to replace it at some point because general wear and tear.

The main reason for me getting a group 1/2/3 seat is so I didn’t have to replace them with yet another one.

Wear and tear, my seats look brand new and my daughter has been using hers for 4.5 years. I expect it’ll last the duration.

Good to know

Don't forget to get some kind of seat underlay to protect the surface of the seat from indentations and also general child grime - The official Audi part number is 004L0019819A if you want an OE one - and @CreweAudi has them for £39 I believe.

That is something I had not thought of, thanks.

I would get a Joie 360 so easy to get the child in and out, as it’s a group 0+1 you will won’t need another seat till they are 3/4

We have always used Maxi-Cosi seats for all three of our kids right from the baby seat with the Isofix base (which in my opinion is the best child related purchase we have ever made!!) up to the seats that my 6, 7 and 10 year old are in now...

Yup, same here, maxi cosi all the way - all three of ours have been in that brand’s products from birth.

Their latest i-size seats seem well-made and pretty innovative (the new family fix base for the baby seat has colour LEDs and bleeps to indicate when it and the seat is correctly installed and located for example). I did look around at what else was on the market before we moved home from Singapore and came to the conclusion that MC was the way to go.

As always in life mind, quality costs good money (especially for the i-size models), but then what price your kids’ safety?

Exactly that...all of ours have fitted well and securely in the family car, been good quality, lasted well and have been comfortable for the kids...not that it stops them moaning on journeys lol

Thanks to everyone for the advice.

Now we're going to have a look at all the choices and see if we can figure out what suits us best.

As I’ve stumbled across this thread I’ll add the two car seats we have in our A2’s as it might be helpful, both great Isofix fitting seats that look nice and do the job fantastically...

For a baby and then onto toddler Stage;
Recaro Zero.1 Elite with infant carrier
(front and rear facing 0-18 kg 360 degree rotation) Up to 4 years officially but leg room may be an issue in an A2 - Group 1/2/3

For the bigger baby/toddler onto big toddler/child;
Recaro Monza Nova 2 with Impact Shield
- Group 1/2/3

Obviously they aren’t the cheapest option but you can find deals on both and if you’re planning on putting a few kids through them then it makes more sense to pay the extra.

Kennedy.

I'm so glad I've seen this thread, we carry a 15 month old and a 4 year old grand daughters quite regularly and the seats we have are horrendous, they fasten in with the seat belt and they are simply rubbish.
I will definitely look into some of these.
