Child Seat

The Maxi-Cosi seats also belt in to the car and I always found them to be easy to fasten in correctly and very sucker when fitted this way...

Car seats that fasten by belt are no less secure than Isofix if fitted correctly...the benefit with Isofix seats is that you can’t fit them incorrectly! And always use the top tether on the seat which secured to a locator on the rear side of the seat backrest

UPDATE

We managed to get a look at a few of the seats in John Lewis before they closed for next three weeks and decided the one that suited us most was the Cybex Pallas (thanks @Jeetesh for the suggestion). The wee one is really happy to be able to see out the windows now and hopefully this will last us for a good long time.

@2work Thanks again for your offer of the spare seats, but it looks like we'll not need them.

And Thanks again to everyone for all the helpful advice and suggestions, this is a fantastic owners club that really is the cherry on top of the cake that has been A2 ownership so far.

Edit: once again my terrible spelling has let me down.

My kids really like them and the fact they can be reclined a bit is brilliant. Whilst they’ve not specifically said they like them, I’ve taken it as a given since they fall asleep in them on every long journey. ?

You've also done exactly what I’ve done and put a towel on the seat, I decided it was such a good idea I then went out and bought a towel that matches the seat colour exactly. ?

Question: where do folks attach the Isofix top tether in an A2? There doesn’t seem to be one, or am I mistaken? Clearly, tethering to the seat release handle wouldn’t be a good idea!

Morning,

ISO Fix is mounting points in the A2 and every other car I’ve had is just the 2x clips at the bottom.

Any top security is from the seat belt passing through a designated area at the shoulders of the seat. This is only from limited experience as have only used the BeSafe make of child seats.

To get a better answer from the community, it’s probably worth adding a picture of the seat(s) you’re intending to use. Have you checked the seat manufacture installation manual as it really should be a simple process.

Kind regards,

Tom

Some cars have a top tether mounting point and some don’t. Isofix works on the two bottom mounts as this secures the seat base with the car’s seatbelt then securing your child together with the top part of the seat.

The only thing the top mount does is stabilise the top part of the seat, if your child isn’t in the seat then the top part has a bit of play. Nothing to be concerned about at all.

Hi Tom

The top tether seems to be something introduced more recently, and is a mandatory attachment in some chair fitments - here’s some background: https://www.goodeggcarsafety.com/blog/what-is-a-top-tether.html

The important safety point is that the top tether has a designated marker symbol, so I’d be reluctant to use the luggage hoop we already have on the A2 boot floor.. perhaps I’ll have to investigate the seats in-person to see if they can tether to themselves (I.e. tether wraps around the seat back)

You could tie it to the headrest if you wanted to.

I don't believe top tether are totally necessary, just that extra bit off help, I've used luggage loops before, doesn't matter really better than not attaching them. They have the belt and the isofix so plenty safe enough. We've been safe for years with just belts before.
