I am not surprised the news of this amazing A2 has come out now, despite us not being able to see anything till next year, as I for one would not be able to sit on that news for very long at all!!
I can’t wait to see some photos and maybe the car when the socials start again...it’s a great back story to the car despite the sad way it came about.

I was sat here with a coffee thinking about it ..if it’s worth a suggested £30k £45k? with no miles on her ..then you start driving it and say put 3 k on it first year what would that do to the value ..it would have to half the original suggested value ? surely then when your up to 20k your going to lose another big chunk ..it’s a lot to consider knowing your own financial position I realise is a big factor ..not as straight forward is it ..but then again it’s no different Than driving a new car out of the showroom as that looses a great big chunk straight away..?...decisions decisions ..we are all built different all my previous toys in all honesty have been garage queens and I’ve been to reluctant to use them I’ve realised with age that’s not really the right answer..your keeping them mint for someone else ..

Getting a bit bored with all the furore about it's "worth"
It has no real (monetary) value until it is sold, when it's worth what the buyer paid.
Since the original Owner, his Widow and it's new Owner, obviously had/have no intention of putting it up for sale, let's just celebrate a unique example of our favourite car, and a very lucky A2OC Member.
Mac.

It was natural that there would be much speculation and commentary on the potential for a moth balled and sympathetically stored example to be in existence. We are A2 enthusiasts, lovers geeks and all round weirdos in the melting pot after all. And the better for the diversity and friendly exchange that brings.
I've a sense that this thread could go off subject or create division. It's an emotive and exciting prospect for the club as a whole. And for Ian the said owner of the 'unicorn' as so dubbed.
Therefore - to protect all our nerves this thread is closed for comment unless Ian has an update for us. And that's stated as February. So let's form an orderly queue and wait patiently till then.

@Bargepower - if you want to update this thread give us a shout and we will open it for you. Stay safe and well everybody. I've got my popcorn on pre order for the last week of Feb. I like unicorns. Or unihorns as my 6 year old calls them ?

I'm in suspenders too!

I'm reliably informed by a friend in the motor industry that it is not permissable to register an old unregistered vehicle as 'new' due to emissions legislation. Happy to be proved wrong on that but my pal knows his onions and is fairly high up in a motor retailer.

That makes sense as the whole point of tightening emissions legislation was to force manufacturers to make cleaner cars and if you couldn’t register them beyond a certain date, it would be ruinous for a manufacture to keep making them.

In the case of ‘unicorn’, the 1.6 FSI was Euro 4 and Euro 5 was mandatory from Jan 2011 therefore a 31st Dec 2010 registration date would make it a ‘60’ plate if my understanding is correct.

This is the scenario my mucker played out when I told him about the existence of a moth balled A2. (he used to work for Glasgow Audi when the A2 was available). Perhaps this also gave rise to the huge supply of pre registered stock. What Gavin told me if you didnt register the cars in time for the legislation change it was crusher time. Sounds horrendous. I muse that's also why manufacturers get ready for the legislation changes in plenty time so that potential does not occur. Can't comment on how this impacts on our Unicorn A2. But I'm sure Ian will walk us through the journey. Looking forward to it.
