Today I.....

Experienced my A2 driver side rear door not latching this morning for the first time ever. It's been a recurring issue on my A6 C5 driver door in frosty weather - just have to warm up the latch area for a few minutes and it will eventually shut again. Took 15 minutes today. Set off for work, ride feeling noticeably harder than yesterday - it was after a couple of minutes I noticed the air temperature - see attached image (and yes, I've just noticed the date is wrong too!). This is 5 miles from Dundee, at sea level, not up in the Highlands. We had freezing fog that was lifting in clear sunny weather, and all around the trees were covered in ice crystals - but it explained why the ride was rock hard, the slush was frozen and the door latch jammed open. I didn't notice the cold while I was heating the latch - I think that the air must have been very dry as it can be utterly Baltic around here well above zero when the air is damp. Webasto running non-stop at the moment - what a brilliant piece of kit. Running since December on a set of ex-Polo steel rims with 185/65/15 Continental TS850s that I got off Facebook for 60 quid a year ago (7mm tread! - maybe the best 60 quid I've spent!) - with these and my winter remap (*) Cosmo has been unstoppable over the past few days - very easy to drive without using the brake pedal at all, no untoward wheelspin and a nice drive all round.

(*) just noticed @depronman's post above - I overwrote my winter map onto the standard map half of the dual map (standard / enhanced) that Paul set up for me 18 months ago. So I have a low tune, and the AMF high tune in about 30 seconds-worth of ODB-reader plugging-in, instructing the ECU to swap over to the other code set and unplugging again (+ignition off and on again) - I normally swap these over with the wheel change, although did run the low map for longer a year back to see if I could confirm an overall improvement in fuel efficiency (it does appear to do so by 3-4mpg but I had a handful of multi-month repair jobs last year so didn't run the car long-term through a range of conditions).

Which map offers better MPG?

Mark, that's horrendous ... I hope the Police throw the book at the BMW driver and his insurance coughs up big time. And thank heavens it wasn't Basil!

Let battle commence! I already have supporting information to back the claim

Belive it or not , no action by the plod , dispiriting to say the least , Derbyshire police force nuff said , driver left the incident , only to to return following the powers of Facebook , cctv and living in a small village .... was rather surprised to find the a2 had been pushed back 4mts and into a further car .... which looks also looks be a write off ....

Yep nil injury’s , very , very lucky as the path is on the school run for the village , and the car ended up well on the pavement
If it had been Basil , I think I may have lost the plot ! This A2 , was known as project shed , or Egg , RIP it’s was brought as a replacement for on written off by a bmw , was repaired twice following bumps , and partly rewired when the starter motor set fire to it , this however is the end , a very sad day on one less A2 on the road

I wanted to share my view walking back from morning toilet. The silver compadre is taking the cold well .

Today my son was watching something called ‘driveandlisten’ where it’s a drivers view around cities of the world...he spotted several A2’s in Munich and this 1.6 Fsi whizzing round London!

What?!? My wife clipped a wing mirror on a narrow street (didn’t notice, maybe heard a loud tap - so she drove on...). His glass was broken and he called the Police. We had Police at the door, were called to the station, formally interviewed and she was lucky that she only got points and a fine.

They accepted it was unintentional and so allowed the fine and points. First offence. Clean licence and a Smart car!

Get your force sorted. Driving off is illegal! You can hardly fail to have noticed that little bump!

Driving off is supposed to be 5 points. Some yoof in a Saxo VTR did it to me many years ago after he skidded into a rear-quarter shunt on the car I was driving. I got his number plate and reported it to Police and my insurance. He refused to accept any enquiry from his insurers about it, but luckily a witness backed up my Police report and he was collared. However he was very contrite after arrest and ended up with a driver awareness course rather than the points.

@Away with the fairys are you keeping and breaking the car? I thought I read on FB you’re taking bits of to sell, or did I misinterpret?
Morning

i have offered the seats to a couple of well known members ,whom I have built very strong ties with over the last couple of years. Those are going tomorrow ahead the cars collection on Monday

In reality, I would have liked the challenge to rebuild the car , as I know it is a “sound “ car , but carrying this task outdoors at this time of year , along with the fact the car is immobile on the street , has rather forced the hand

all the parts required are readily available and my brief inspection suggested nil damage to the Space frame , it’s just the amount of other bolt on parts which are damaged !

there are a couple of bits which i going to remove , hand brake tray , front winglets , heated mirrors , wiperarm and full set of mudflaps ,those will be set aside for the next car , or offered for sale once the lockdown is over

i am currently working away from home which is not helping !
Regards Mark

Will you be keeping/selling any of the Alloys?

Hello Mark,

If you do decide to sell the heated mirrors I would be interested in them for the Dolphin Grey (250) A2. I sold my last set far too cheap and could do with them now.

You’re not that far away and travel near you once every 2 weeks so could collect whilst remaining safe.

Let me know and I’ll keep looking out in the market area.

Kind regards,

Tom
