Soon to be a proud owner

A2OC Donor
Well I posted my intro and said hello this morning and said I was looking for my first A2, preferably a tdi. After searching everywhere and not finding any loved examples in my price range I finally found what seems to be a very tidy and well looked after 1.4 se petrol. It has full black leather seats, steering wheel and gear knob, all round electric windows, a sort of burgandy red colour with a full MOT with no advisories, serviced 1500 miles ago and it's a 2002 with 108k on the clock. I'm travelling over to Tonbridge tomorrow morning to give it the once over and bring it home. I have offered £700 for it and it has been accepted, all being well i've got myself a potential winner!!
Couple of issues I know will need sorting are:-

-key fobs don't lock the car, you have to use the key in the door (hoping it's just a battery)
-fuel flap has to be opened from inside the boot
-can't open the passenger window from the drivers side

Hopefully this time tomorrow I will be a very happy owner of a lovely A2.

Good luck mate, hope it turns out OK after travelling all that way. Look forward to seeing a post on here.

Well done you :) Sounds like Castle Red, a lovely colour that appears bronze-ish in strong sunlight.

The keyfobs issue could be as simple as needing to pair them with the CCCU again after the battery was disconnected or ran flat. Ignition on, then off and immediately press the Unlock button, should do the trick if so.

Edit: I've just seen it on FB Marketplace - that's not Castle Red, it's either Brilliant Red or Amulet Red. Watch out for lacquer peel, looks like there's some starting on the rear bumper, passenger mirror and A-pillar already, but still sounds like a lot of car for £700.

Yes I did notice the lacquer peeling in those places but my thought was for the money and age I can't complain.

Thanks for the heads up on the key fobs, I will give it a try and let you know.

May be battery in key fob or may be just need the key re syncing to the car
Both easy to do

Fuel flap will be either solder joint or micro switch on drivers door lock

I’m sure @Clackers or @A2Steve will have a switch for you. I bought one from Audi new recently as they’re still available and I’m stocking up on known weak-point components now while I still can!
That's not a bad idea, I am going to need buttons for the heater and general dash area, I hate it being broken or worn.

Audi A4 buttons are the go to replacement for the climate buttons. The A4 are hard touch so don’t wear but a slightly more black that the A2 soft touch but they look ok if changed as a set

Thanks that some great advice.
Ive been a member of forums over 20 years of driving and I can honestly say I've never had so much help from the first day of joining as I have so far. I can tell this is going to be a place I'll being spending lots of time (my wife will no doubt give me lots of grief)?

I spotted this one as was very tempted as my brother lives nearby and would have collected for me. However, I'm holding out for a diesel. Hope it's a good one for you ?

Well I'm glad you didn't go for it as you'd of beat me to it. I can honestly say I'm more excited about this £700 A2 than brand new cars I've bought, I think the fact I know I'll have things to fix and repair makes it so much more enjoyable.

Owning an old Audi is great fun. Looks like a good buy. If the leather seats are good they are worth almost what you are paying for the whole car!

I believe they said it's the switch broken on the B pillar
Open the drivers door and if the dash display doesn’t register the door being opened then it’s likely the micro switch in the drivers door as @depronman mentioned. So if the car doesn’t know the drivers door is open it will not activate the fuel flap button, so changing the button will have no effect.
just a quick check you can do whilst you’re there.

hope it all goes well
