On My Way

What a lovely peppy little motor, I have to say I am pleasantly surprised how much I like it. The leather seats are soooo comfy, the steering is so smooth and it's 19 years old, economy for a petrol engine was impressive, it had 3/4 of a tank of fuel and it managed 105miles per quarter of a tank and that was doing 70 mph most of the way, very pleased with it I have to say.
Down sides, I think the clutch is about to go as the bite point is at the very top and it judders when you move off in first with lots of revs. Also the steering pulls to the left and it had a slight wheel wobble at 70mph but I'm having the tracking and wheel balancing done tomorrow so that will be one less thing to do.
To be honest half the appeal is being able to have a little project as well as a daily car, looking forward to getting stuck in.
Oh does anyone know the cost of a clutch on the 1.4 petrol? Any help is appreciated.

cheers,
Mark

Try bleeding the clutch first, many owners neglect to replace the brake fluid when due and consequently the clutch can suffer.

I'm going to sound stupid now but what has the brake fluid got to do with the clutch??

Hah glad you asked. The A2 has only one reservoir and that provides the fluid for both the brakes and the clutch slave.

Oh I see, well that is good to know, I will have a look at that tomorrow. More fun to be had.

May be well worth having the fluid completely flushed and bled in the brakes and clutch, especially if you can not determine when it was last done.

Parts I need already are as follows:-
-new fuel cap release switch, as the one on the b pillar is stuck in the pressed position and the drivers door open does come up on the dash.
-new climate buttons for the temp, fan speed and off button all the others are fine.
-new clear side repeater as the drivers side one is yellow and looks terrible.
-new aug belt and cam belt as the previous owner doesn't know when it was last done.

Know doubt I will have plenty more things to add but it's a good start?

OK can't help you with any of the needed parts. But can advise you that Audi provided a manual release for the fuel flap. In the boot on the right side you will see the access panel grille to get to the rear offside lights. Remove this and you will find a metal rod. Gently pull down on this and the flap will release. Just close the flap normally after you refuel.

Thankfully the guy I bought it off showed me that otherwise I'd of been stumped. Thank you though, I do appreciate any words of wisdom?

Where did you pick it up from? The 303 is a good route home for testing out a newly bought car, fast enough to make progress, but not quite motorway speeds unless on the dual sections, and plenty of service stations to stop and check fluids / investigate odd noises etc!

Very true plus it's much more enjoyable than a motorway. To honest it didn't skip a beat, it highlighted the tracking and balancing needs doing but i'm having that done today, also the clutch needs investigating but i've been told it could be an issue with old brake fluid so I will have that flushed and renewed asap. All things considered its a little gem for 700 pounds and i already have the bug to make her as mint as i can.
