Deflector ring
Only installed with basic running gear

What does it mean by basic running gear ?

I thought this plastic ring was for delivery only, so on one of my CV joints i threw it away before fitting, I recieved another new CV joint today so that's when i got curious and looked at the drawing from the audi manual.

I am assuming its designed to prevent dirt/debris getting in and affecting the abs sensor pickup ?

I think that "basic running gear" in the manuals refers to the non 1.2 litre TDI 3L models. The 3L version has all sorts of subtle differences from the standard car. So unless you have a 3L the deflector ring should be installed - at least that's how I have been reading the manual. When I did this job last there wasn't a whole lot of the old CV left to compare against....

Thanks for the info, i guess ill have to try and find the part if you can buy them as it went out with the rubbish, if not another CV joint kit to take it out of.

Sorry just edited my post to make it clearer, but looks like you have understood what I was getting at ?
