Today I.....

Today we took the wee one to visit grandparents and just as we were leaving my 1.4 petrol became a 1.05ltr 3 banger :(

Luckily grandad knew a good local mechanic who managed to diagnose number 2 coil pack had decided to shuffle of this mortal coil (boom boom) and managed to replace all four (and plugs) in less than an hour for us.

Managed to get home just in time for dinner so it could have bee worse.

Today I cleaned the winter shod pepperpots ready to be stored away, swapped over with A2 alloys

Not exactly today, but yesterday.....I picked this lovely one up. Same owner since 2003, a few little faults, namely a pretty healthy oil leak and needing a thermostat. Will all be sorted out over the next few months and will replace a 2019 Citroen C3 lease car for my wife to use.

If you read this Mark, thank you, she will be looked after ?
You're very welcome Shaun. Good to see her in her new home!

...I drove Alison and happened upon some like-minded people. And a couple of friends. The famous A2 Party Piece does tend to attract people. They asked many questions. And had a good look around. I reckon Alison has been accepted as a classic. Look at the company she keeps... ???

Without trying to be offensive (I promise I'm not being) but the A2 looks out of place amongst the classic cars, it is to modern looking and only in my opinion is not in the same league as those surrounding her. To be clear I love my A2 and others also but classics are classics and as yet that status has not been awarded to the A2.

I have to say when I actually bothered to look at the pictures I cried with laughter as my first thought was "oh know he's parked in the wrong spot" and then I thought people are asking a lot of questions and most of them were...."excuse me, have you missed the public's parking area"?
I'm sorry but I have a wicked sense of humour?

No worries! No offence taken! All views and opinions are valid of course; it is interesting that you mention class; I've never really thought about that. That said, it was a privilege to have a ride out in a (different) XK120 last Sunday.? ? ?

I must say I was invited to this event and others on the strength of A2 ownership by the the keepers of cars similar to the ones parked near Alison; they find A2 "Technically Interesting".

I've always got the 'Nuclear Option' if an older vehicle is required; a 1950 bus designed in the 'thirties! Bloody hard work compared to Alison though! ???

I can see the A2 being a good talking point as they are not a common car, a bit like a bmw Z1 ect, I would be very surprised to see an A2 between all those classic cars if I were there but it is all about appreciation of the motors we love and any A2 owner does have a real love for the little gems we own.
Glad you managed to get a ride in a beautiful classic though, very jealous of that indeed.

Yes the removable bonnet always draws a crowd. My friends and I are 'Industrial Design' Enthusiasts; I'm just as interested in a well designed Audio Amplifier as I am an Audi A2. Or any piece of Industrial Design.

The ride out was the result of (cheekily) asking if I could have a lift to the Station.
For a while, the XK120 was the world's fastest car. Must have looked other worldly in Post War Britain when it came out. It is a thing of beauty; a wonderful piece of Industrial Design. Other examples of Industrial Design I like include the Severn Suspension Bridge and the Humber Suspension Bridge. Like the A2, Aerodynamics and (relatively) Light Weight are features they have in common. The Severn Crossing is also a World First...

There was a good selection of cars; I must point out that only six of us met up; that venue is popular and it is 'Drive it Day' as you might know!

My favourite car there was a fairly standard Morris Mini from 1960. The SM is also beautiful!
? ? ? ? ? ?

*Edit* I forgot to post more blimmin' pictures! ?‍♂️ It would also help if I wasn't multi-tasking and actually completed a paragraph properly...?‍♂️

we got audio tuned in nicely yesterday, very happy with how that sounds. Not so happy with the sound that's probably coming from a broken rear left wheel bearing. Got to test that - but it's going in for new summer boots this week so I'll ask them to test at the same time. Oh, and it's snowing. +1.8C according to the thermometer....

Hi Brett,

Do you have any pictures of your install? I'm interested in all audio related initiatives in our A2's, since very few owner really bother with it. I'm happy to read you're an enthousiast too. Keep it up ?

Yes, but it's looking terrible at the moment. Short version:
15mm plywood base across the boot floor. Cutouts to access the seat levers.
Left side has 14l box for 8" sub (correct size for that particular sub). The right side is split into to 2 levels. Lower level has a 4 output fused distro and a PG QX300.1 for sub; upper level 2 x PG QX350.2. Left for Tweeters, right for Woofers. Around 120W RMS per output channel available.
6.5" component set is from Axton, the ATC165. Woofers in plywood adapters, tweeters in cups on the a-pillars.
Speaker cables are DLS, signal cables from front to back are 4 connect; interconnects between amps are DIY Rean / Mogami. Should have done that for the signals front-to-back, too, but didn't think. Power is 35mm2 via 2 fuses to the distro block.
I can make the mirror shake. Calls sound good. Slumber Party (NSFW!) sounds excellent - bouncy, nice tight bass, not shouty / screechy at all. This would be why I want to use these €100 drivers in the Octavia, too. Have to try Silent Shout at some point, as it's got lots of subbass; Ariane sounds excellent as does the unplugged version of Hotel California and Herbert's bloss geliebt. I can just turn it up and it keeps going - at some point I have to turn the Octy back down again as it's just annoying.
HU is a Pioneer SPH-10BT with the built-in phone holder (which also works really well).

Most expensive part of the system is the HU at €120. Speakers €100. Sub was €10. Amps I'm sure I didn't spend more than €50 each. Total is under €500. To improve still: fix and seal the front drivers against the inner door skin. Glue and paint same. Then fix the hum / hiss front to back with a 1.5mm to have common grounds. Then maybe the RCAs front to back. Think I still have enough Mogami.

Fitted the new fuel release button as purchase fro @CreweAudi via ebay. The first one went missing in the post but they dealt with it very quickly and i always judge a coompeny by how well they deal with somethign if it goes wrong. so thumbs up for that.

However, im not made of money ( even less so recently) so scoured the internet for a deal on rear brake shoe kits and the best i got was the ATE prokit from AutoDoc. I wasn't going to go ahead with as postage made it compariable to others, but if you leave it in the basket long enough they send you a code for free postage so I tried them out. £53 delivered. Never used them before, aware it can be hit and miss so fingers crossed.
