Bad news - I think that I need a new DMF

Well, it was something I had accounted for, but it looks like already I have the dreaded DMF death rattle, although it does come and go.

I have done this on a few A2's already (not me personally) and it's not much fun price wise, but does make a huge difference.

I always wondered if I could do this myself and I found this great video showing you what needs to be done. Truly epic!

She is amazing,
Audi in Worthing on Friday quoted me 10 hours labour @ £120 + VAT per hour plus £450 in parts to do the same.
She managed it in 2 half an hour sessions ,Ha Ha Ha
I wonder if she would like a job in Horsham.

Best part of £2,000 to replace a clutch????

And you wonder why the main stealers get such a bad name! ??

When He called me back to give me the quotation, He said you are not gone like this, it will be just under £2000, I asked him would it be cheaper to convert it to SMF, He said the labour cost be the same though parts maybe slightly cheaper, suggested finding a local mechanic:D

That is ridiculous. I will be asking Edinburgh Audi and then getting a quote from a local independent. Audi have a price promise so if I get a quote from another vat registered garage within 15 miles of them that use genuine parts they will match it. So may go down that route.

Either way. It’s now on the list to be done.

And unfortunately it is on the lovely TDI 90 I have just purchased, but I’m not phased. It’s a beautiful car with a massive spec and impeccable service history including a £2000 receipt for work just done. I will spend the money and enjoy it

But now I know what is involved I can see why it is so expensive. I also will not be doing this at home as the investment in tools just doesn’t make sense for me.

I paid £180 to have my clutch replaced and at the same time they installed my MYP box. It was trade rates and I did supply all the parts though.

That is a good price and an MYP would be a great option as the 90 is about to be BHP enhanced.

I’ll do some research but I presume the MYP is largely bolt on?

Out of interest. Now I know what is involved does anyone recommend replacement of other removed parts when doing the dmf? E.g gear selector hat and pendulum (dogbone) mount?

Perhaps one kit is more comprehensive, you would have to check and if they are the same then the cheaper is always better as long as it is in stock.

That is what I was thinking. Maybe the kit you have found includes the bearing.

I have always found partsinmotion very helpful give them a call and ask what is or not included. As you would be in the area then at very least inspect all the other parts and replace if you think they are needed. Remember if you decide to change other bits later then you have increased the labour as they would be within the area of the clutch / gearbox.
