Paint spilt in the boot.

Gutted, on the way back from the DIY store in my A2 1.4tdi a tin of masonry paint burst open in the boot
Valet company tried their best but not completely removed. Thinking of looking at changing boot base, sides and the 4 net hooks. Welcome any help including companies that could help.

Horrible thing to happen.
Probably best to remove everything and jetwash after soaking in strong detergent.
Hopefully masonry paint is water soluble so don't need to use any strong solvents which may affect the materials.
Worst-case is to replace as you have suggested, perhaps get in touch with @A2Steve or @Cenick to see if they have any parts available?

Hi @985J,

Do you know which colour interior is in your A2? Black, cream, light grey...?
Many years ago, I bought an A2 that'd suffered the same fate; a can of oil-based paint had been spilt in the boot. The paint had already hardened, meaning that replacement was the only option.

I'm near Lancaster and can dismantle/reassemble an A2's interior in my sleep. Let me know if I can be of help. Depending on the interior colour of your A2, I may even have the required replacement parts, should your existing panels not be able to be rescued.

Cheers,

Tom

Morning Julian,

Very valid question regards colour from Tom above, please do let us know or add a picture to show us if you’re not 100% certain. It looks to be Soul Black if you still have the same TDI as you had in 2015 but do confirm.

Also Tom’s offer to swap interior parts is something you might want to take up, he is a wizard at interiors without breaking any of the ageing plastic clips/fixings. There is also plenty of information on here if you wish to do it yourself though.

Here is a useful thread (Post #13) where Tom actually explains how to remove the luggage space interior panels.

If you’re passing through Leicestershire or Lincolnshire anytime soon I can supply either a pair Soul (black) or Twist (beige) luggage space side panels. They are not the false floor variant but are FOC if you can collect as they’re taking up room in the garage and you’d be doing me a favour taking them.

Kind regards,

Another Tom

Brilliant, thanks for replies, the colour is black and the base piece has a lift able flap to access stuff below. Will get back to someone re travel as in South Yorkshire.

Afternoon Julian,

Seems like you don’t have the false floor, therefore I have both the luggage compartment side panels in Soul Black for you here FOC.

If this happened last week I could have met a lot closer to you as was in York (Hilton Towers) and Castle Howard over the weekend just gone.

If you want them then they’re yours to collect.

You’ll still need to obtain the carpeted floor and the 4 hooks/fixing points, which I’m positive someone on here will have one for pennies.

Depending on how long you’re willing to wait, I’m heading to the Thirsk/Richmond area for the Club camping trip early September.

Maybe a drive by drop off on route to Broaches Farm?

@985J Edit: I’ll be heading up the A1(M) so hopefully you could nip across to meet up at a services as I head North.

Kind regards,

Tom

A photo of your boot, as it is right now, would be really helpful. That'd allow us to identify colour, see which bits have been damaged by the paint, and establish for certain whether or not your A2 has the false floor. Only then can we know for sure that you're getting everything that you need in the correct variant.

Cheers,

Tom

I also have a set of Soul Black side panels that are going to head to the tip at some stage, unless someone wants them ...

Seems like you are spoilt for choices as to free Soul Luggage Compartment Panels.

Let me know if you want mine as I could deliver them along the A1(M) as per my earlier message. Totally up to you as what I’m offering is also free of charge (FOC).

Kind regards,

Tom

Brilliant, thanks Julian.

You do indeed have a Soul (black) boot, without the false floor.

From what I can see, you'll need:
  • Left-hand-side boot trim panel
  • Right-hand-side boot trim panel
  • Rearmost carpet
  • Four load hooks and their covers (though these may clean up just fine, if the paint can be scraped off hard surfaces)
  • Possibly the rearmost boot trim panel (I can't see whether any of the paint has touched this panel, as it's out of sight).
It looks like you're spoilt for choice with regards to the boot trim panels. I have a set of the load hooks, which you can have, though do not have any spare load hook covers. I'd hope that @A2Steve or @Clackers may be able to supply the rearmost section of carpet in the correct colour, though they're awkward to post. I have a carpet in Platinum that you're welcome to have. Platinum is the same colour as your car's interior above the shoulder (the roof lining, upper pillars, etc). I'm also happy to do the complete transfer of parts, should you wish.

It's a shame that some of the paint has got onto the back seats. For reference, should you wish to replace these in the future, they are covered in black Jacquard cloth.

Cheers,

Tom
