Today I.....

Today I......found and fixed an annoying clicking noise, which was especially noticeable when reversing, thanks to this thread. I didn't even know A2s had a driveshaft shield, let alone that it could wear loose. Mine had got to the stage it was resting on the inner CV boot and making a clicking noise when the boot clip caught it - I'm very relieved it wasn't caused by a chipped tooth in the gearbox. The bad news is that I also discovered the O/S inner CV boot has split, so that's another job!

Received two A2 related parcels. This round multifunction steering wheel to go in the 1.2 in due course (the flat bottom one I decided was too sporty hence passing on to Tom) and my replacement seat runner covers from @2work That packing Tom ???

Morning Erling,

That’s a lovely steering wheel and will sit in the 3L perfectly. Glad you’re happy with your parcel, some nice packing done there!

Thank you so much again for adding to the further refined feel in 250 yesterday.

Kind regards,

Tom

Fitted new wheels this afternoon, 1st impressions are improved comfort over 17” QT’s and, probably due to the extra adapter width, cornering is also much better.

One thing I did notice was increase noise, but that could be due to having 2 tyres with the wrong rotation so will need to swap them around and see if that helps.

I like those Steve ? up from me. Would look fantastic on coilovers.

brought the new-to-me-barge Superb back from up north this morning. A2 goes up in a couple of weeks with my daughter. It's also now fixed, bearing replaced... but the brake discs are seemingly warped :(

Sea Silver, crystal blue, Atlantic Blue and Akoya silver
Very nice line up indeed.
Just curious ; did you change the service flap on the Atlantic blue? I have a feeling Atlantic blue was superseded by Azure blue long before the new flap was introduced?

Previous owner did and I do prefer the slatted grill, I know many people don't. The Atlantic blue one is an early 2001 1.4 petrol.

Today I placed a jackup point cover (WHT 007 060 - £0.35) into my new undertray. There was a hole in it, and who wants a hole in their car?
The undertray (8Z0 825 235F) was designed with a hole for the webasto exhaustpipe, I guess.

Fits like a glove.

The job waiting, is to fit the undertray - 12 fixingpoints and a wild west of screws, pins, speednuts and bolts.Around 30 pieces.

Today the car would not unlock, or shock horrors was it unlocked last night. I've changed the battery before but having split the key vertically I was stumped how to expose the battery, This link shows the procedure with pictures https://blog.wolfautoparts.com/audi-vw-flip-key-fob-remote-battery-replacement/ It needs a CR2032.

Still wouldn't work but I had noted previously the re-sync instructions taken from this forum (slightly modified) below:

Resync remote:
Lock door with key
Unlock door with key (turn key to right)
Open door put key into ignition
Turn to ignition (where dash lights up but not starting car)
When all lights settle down, turn back off and remove key
Press unlock button on remote fob.
Done

I had to try twice. I did it without fully reassembling the key. When exposing the battery the keyfob will come off the chain. Don't forget to reinsert the chain as you reassemble or you will have to repeat the procedure, and the keyfob gets a little damaged each time it is prised apart.

Sorry, did not note the author:

More of a "Last week I did", but I went from Canterbury to Manchester and back with my TDI90 and still have 3L left in the tank :) My colour DIS gave an average consumption of 4.5l/100km on the way there and 4.4l on the way back. I was quite impressed, both with the car and myself :)
Downhill with the wind behind you on the way back then?

Is that on 60+ mph? Any idea what the DIS avg. speed was? Seems a fairly good value overall though.

Under ideal circumstances I find that a TDI90 can do 3.9 l/100km (72.5mpg) even on 205 17" wheels if pretending like the rightmost pedal doesn't exist, 3.5l (80.8 mpg) on 175 15" skinny wheels & tyres. (This includes, but is not limited to, being overtaken by lorries ? - would not recommend)

Edit: actually reading this back it sounds like bragging - not trying to say that 4.4l is bad, just not the utmost limit maybe - it would still be in the top 10% of avg consumptions for a TDI90 I believe :)

(Makes me think I should go and get my hands on a 3L to see what that does when going that slowly - with Diesel prices reaching 1,52€ here (after 0,94€ during lockdown), I'm not sure going any slower in the ATL/TDI90 is an option to save anymore ? )

Will be swapping to 185/55 winter pepperpots tomorrow, hoping they are as economic as last years 175/60 snowflakes, assuming TÜV doesn't throw a wrench in my plans. No mounting whatever you want over here, unfortunately ?
