Hi

My automatic gearbox has had/have trouble. I had car to workshop and now car is in one peace and no error codes.
Even if all seems OK the gearbox will not work.

Work shop has no experience in this type of service and they have given up. They have flushed oil and mounted my refurbished pressure unit thanks to @RAB for help

What do you recomend to be my next step? Im prepared to pay Audi original dealer to do a new service but before I pay another €€€€ i was hoping to get som help from this forum.

Is there a guide to reset gearbox after a repair like this?

You need to do a basic setting using VCDS.

Here are the instructions: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/5-Speed_Electronic_Manual_Transmission_(085)

Follow to the letter.

Your Audi dealer will have the equivalent of VCDS but that doesn't mean that they can do the work! They will also have Elsawin which tells them exactly what to do! Perhaps ask other Norwegian owners of the A2 1.2Tdi where to take your car?

@RAB Thanks for accurate info.

For me, as not a electro/mechanic expert, this is "greek" for me :

Clutch Travel Sender Adaptation

[Select]
[02 - Transmission]
[Measuring Blocks - 08]

Block 002
[Go!]
Remove connector from hydraulic unit.
Check field 2, specification is 1.8...2.0 V.
If the specification is not reached, adjust the Clutch Travel Sender (G162).
Re-attach connector to hydraulic unit.
[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

Cycle ignition OFF/ON.
[Select]
[02 - Transmission]
[Fault Codes - 08]
[Clear Codes - 05]
[Done, Go Back]

Is there some sort of how to do it manual? Is this done by a computer + fingers "Remove connector from hydraulic unit." + "Check field 2, specification is 1.8...2.0 V."

i sertanly can remove a connector, but wich? is it only one? is it a plug?

Yes you understand, i can read instructions but i struggle to execute the job: From paper to workshop...

Anyone who have a "how to" instructions with photos/video would be perfect?

Thanks up front!

this is a description from the manual. In VCDS, Select device 02 - Transmission. Go to Measuring blocks. Check Block 002. Hit "Go!" (yes. the button really is labelled like that).
Niow remove the connector from the hydraulic unit and check that field 2 value is between 1.8 and 2.0V.

The process is described with pictures to help here: https://wiki.a2-freun.de/wiki/index.php/Getriebegrundeinstellung (but it's in German).

Thanks @bretti_kivi :)

Nice to see, a bit scary, im pretty good to fix things, but this seems to be rocket science...

To do the job I neet the VCDS + some cable + a computer and tools. Computer and tools is ok.

Q:
Is there a place to buy cable used?
What is the minimum spesification for the cable?
Is free version of VCDS good enough for this job/car?

Thanks

It's really not rocket science! VCDS IS the cable. Download for free but you need the cable. Free version won't do basic settings. VCDS Lite is probably the cheapest useful version but confirm with Ross Tech first. Also Ross Tech don't supply the hardware for VCDS Lite so it may be a bit of a lottery!

This would be my choice:

I note with interest that the Autodia cable I have does not want to work with this laptop I'm writing on and VCDS. The lite version allows you to test for free, and I would strongly recommend doing just that. My cable works fine with CarPort... but that has a very different user interface so if you're following stuff along and don't know the /why/, I would strongly recommend finding a cable that works with VCDS and using that.

@LittOmAlt

VCDS is available in various forms.

1. Unregistered VCDS Lite.
Free download limited in functionality but better than nothing.
2. Registered VCDS Lite.
For a fee of $99 (1) can be upgraded to become very useful for VAG cars of our A2 era, often argued all you really need need for our A2's, but if you own other more recent VAG cars and wish to also use it on these then maybe (2) is not a good option.
3. Full VCDS in various options.
A significant jump in price.

The differences between a (1), (2) & (3) are outlined here.

For VCDS Lite you need to buy a cable ((3) comes with a cable), available on ebay for little cost. The problem is many do not work but others do and when you buy you don't know. I would buy a more expensive guaranteed cable from a reputable supplier such as this

(Delivery to Norway by arrangement, refer to 'Delivery Information'.)

Hope this helps.

Hi @Andrew

Thanks for your reply.

Do I understand that option 1 + a VCDS Lite will be enough to read the codes for my gearbox , or do I have to buy the SW?

Good Afternoon,

I know nothing about the 1.2 model (never sold by Audi in the UK) so not a good person to ask.

I can only go by Rab's post number 2 above and need to perform Basic Settings. The Ross-Tech link on VCDS differences indicates registered VCDS Lite will perform Basic Settings so as I see it you need to

1. Download VCDS Lite onto a Windows PC.
2. Upgrade to the registered version by paying the fee.
3. Purchase a reliable cable such as the Gendan one I linked above.

Do this and you will be good to go.

Sorry I do not understand your abbreviation SW above.

Andy

An unregistered VCDS Lite won't do basic settings so is no use to you. Do as Andrew states above.

Free VCDS Lite will READ codes, but you cannot carry out the settings you require, for that you need theucensed version, @ $99. Start with the free version, get it working, then license it. Think of the free version as Read only.
Mac.

Picked up A2 from repair shop today.
They have done all gearbox adjustments with computer. No luck. They told me it could be something with gear computer(?) Or bad commections.

Im prepared to trash it.

Do you guys have a final tip?

Car is good i all other ways, only 107000 km

Hi
Trashing is a sad word for an 1.2TDI ?. In case of that I would be interested to buy it Instead to try to save the car.
