I'll apologise now for asking this but having read other posts I'm still not sure on the answer to my question. Looking to replace the glow plugs on my tdi75 but there are various different versions listed on eurocarparts website . Can anyone point me in the correct direction as to which is the correct one ? Also, are they as prone to breaking upon removal as everyone says ? Thanks

Hi Neilf,
My Glowplugs came out really easily when engine was hot, spray with release agent of choice first get hot & try repeat if necessary.
GlowPlugs came from Darkside developments Beru specked on registration number fittted perfectly & work well.
Hope that helps you
Keith.

What's to gain by changing them vs potentially a royal pain in the plums!
It'll probably help it start better in the cold temperatures and stop the cloud of white smoke I get when it's cold. Only does it now coming into the winter so likely to be the plugs especially as I reckon they're original ....18years old and 155k miles .

When refitting them tighten to the specified torque after running them in by hand to prevent cross threading. If they are original REALLY soak them, even better soak them daily for a week when the engine is hot. Important not to get them too long as they could jam and shear off, then hit by the piston.

Plugs are no 12 in this diagram and if you click on the double arrows on the far right that brings up manufacturers part numbers to check....

What is more important is you get glow plugs with the correct operating voltage..

11v for the AMF and BHC ( and ANY ? )
5v for the ATL

Yes you will find a great price range. Do not assume that is all down to quality as certain manufactures may be OEM supplier to current vehicles and are supplying in bulk so costs are lower. All said if in doubt stick with recommended makes such as Bosch or Beru.

Mine came out easy after a weeks soaking, they been in ten years plus I reckon. I very gently tightened a tenth of a turn and then un tightened half a turn, then soaked then came back a few days later and they came out nicely. You can sort of tell through the socket wrench how likely they are to be a pain. Just go carefully and be patient

Mine came out easily on a warm engine and were replaced with NGK. I tested the original ones afterwards and one was dead.
