Komfortblinker (Comfort Indicator) Discount

Morning all,

As per an idea from Neil @A2Z who mentioned investigating a discount for multiple orders on this thread, here I am seeing if it’s something that is worth pursuing if there is such a demand.

This venture is as per the title. It’s for obtaining the Komfortblinker from the supplier in Germany hopefully at a discounted price.

Here’s the description straight from their website:

These really are plug and play. I’ve fitted one within both a Single DIN and Double DIN Dashboard. Must admit I found it a little more difficult in the latter but only a couple of minutes extra.

If there was a demand for these and I progressed with this then I would look to quickly put together a ‘how to’ (with plenty of pictures) to assist with installation.

Straight off the top of my head though, you need to remove your head unit (shouldn’t be required but ensure you have the code for the head unit), climate control panel and storage box (if fitted due to having a Single DIN Dashboard) to access the hazard relay. Those of you reading this without aircon will require to do further homework as I’ve never removed a manual heater control panel. Probably not difficult but have no experience of this as only had A2’s sporting Climate Control with Air Conditioning.

Installation is quite simple but obviously not for everyone. For those of you not wishing to fit this yourself then I’m sure a local member will be more than willing to offer assistance as it such a quick and easy this to fit.

I’ve not yet approached the company so have no idea of minimum order quantity to obtain a sizeable discount. I’ll probably not do so until there is sufficient interest.

Here’s the current price direct from their website:

Here’s the very same item from them but from their eBay offerings:

Slightly better going pricing using eBay but let’s see what the demand might be to see if we can collectively manage a better price.

Just register your interest on this thread with username and quantity required. No commitment at this stage as this is just an investigation to see what the demand is before I engage in negotiations to obtain the discount.

Example:
@2work x1 delivered to mainland UK

Kind regards,

Tom

Could I just ask Tom, do the head unit and climate panel have to be removed as I thought @the grim reeper said only the lower cubby on a single din dash needed to be removed when doing his?

I appreciate it would probably be much easier with having greater access but personally I would always rather remove less if possible to lessen the chance of any damage?

On a double din I know you would obviously have to remove them

Hi Neil,

Not being a seasoned Komfortblinker fitter I couldn’t really answer your question with any authority.

When I’ve done this before I did indeed remove all the items I mention above for pure ease of access. If there are members out there with hands smaller than mine then I see it entirely possible.

For the sake of spending a few extra minutes removing the aforementioned items, it’s probably not worth the struggle doing it through such a small aperture with them in place. Again, I’m certainly no expert on this.

If this goes ahead then I’ll produce a how to for the members who might think this a difficult task. It’s most certainly not. I remember fitting my first Komfortblinker back in 2015 when I was new to the Club and the A2.

The fitting took a matter of minutes in my old commuter which had a Single DiN Dashboard at the time.

Kind regards,

Tom

Here is a youtube video of someone removing the indicator relay on a non climate A2. Please do not try to do it as he has. Always turn the ignition and radio off, even better disconnect the battery earth. Do not wear rings or metal watches around areas with lots of electric wiring. He makes it look easy to get the relay out of its bracket - it is not that easy especially if it has never been out before. Yet another video from a phone that should have been filmed in LANDSCAPE MODE. Anyway here is the video....

Tom @2work , great idea.

Perhaps if you go direct to the supplier to get pricing you could ask if the would also discount their other A2 products as there has already been interest shown. I can vouch for their quality when I have had items from them in the past and the included instructions were very good. Although I can not find the Komfortblinker instructions, I found the cruise kit instructions.

Here is the web page to see if any are interested in further items..

Tom surprised if you do not go for the rain sensor retrofit kit?

Hi Graham,

Seems entirely possible to get to the relay itself without the removal of the head unit and climate/heater panel.

It still think that it’s probably best practice to remove all the items to carefully place the additional ‘bulk’ that the Komfortblinker comes with.

Great find though and fully agree with your comments regards turning the power off, accident waiting to happen.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Graham,

If the demand is there then this is exactly what this thread is going to try to accomplish. Let’s hope there is demand and I end up in conversation with them.

Tom surprised if you do not go for the rain sensor retrofit kit?
Hello again Graham,

Don’t spoil all my future announcements mate, haha.

I’ve been investigating this retrofit for quite some time. I am hoping to integrate this concept fully into the more recent style auto dimming mirrors with the rain sensor built in. It’s a really involved process to achieve this in an OEM fashion though unfortunately as it’s not a standalone addition. It’s all part of CAN circuit shared by other features which the A2 doesn’t have. Maybe one day I’ll be ready to reveal my findings once I’ve got it running nicely.

I’ve read up on a few websites that the aftermarket kits are quite unreliable and just go to full speed at the slightest hint of rain.

Most people have given up on these aftermarket kits to be honest and had a professional outfit install the factory items at great expense.

To better my understanding on this subject will mean further investment of items for sacrificial purposes along with the necessary time dedicate to it. I’ll get to it though.

Kind regards,

Tom

Cruise for me too, if compatibility is confirmed.
Mac.
Hi Mac,

This is mainly for the Komfortblinker but happy to expand to their other items at a discounted price if there is this greater demand. Got to be worth asking.

I’ll not be producing a how to for Cruise Control though as I beleive that the supplied instructions are easy to follow and there is already quite a lot of installation information spread over the Clubs pages along with other Audi associated websites.

There must be a disclaimer put in place for this though as this is a safety device and the last thing that I’d like to read is someone was involved in an accident due to being unable to disengage Cruise Control as it was incorrectly installed. Although I’d be more than happy to fit Cruise Control myself these days, I still highly recommend it’s done by someone who understands exactly what they’re doing, not saying you don’t know what you’re doing and hope you understand what I’m on about.

Kind regards,

Tom

I would be interested in the Komfortblinker Tom

Geoff
Hi Geoff,

I’ll add you to the list Sir. No obligation at all right now. It’s all hypothetical until I start dialogue with the company, which I’ll do early this coming week.

Thanks for joining in.

Kind regards,

Tom
