Today I.....

Yip ,13 years.😱
:) Of that 13 years the car sat last 8, so it had only 20.000km done on this timing belt.
Interestingly both timing belts and auxiliary belt did not show almost any sign of usage, also all the pulleys were still in great condition. Audi quality :).
Well, the problem is that after the replacement the car does not run ok, so mechanic will take another look during this week. It looks like the alignment was not done correctly. :(

Bah.

Today, after only this week waxing lyrical about how good the car is and that I’ve got it exactly how I want it, hopped in at the hotel car park in Reading and drove to Slough station - hot day so I turned the aircon on, only to find it’s stopped working again despite being serviced / regassed last year!

Tried cycling the temp from “LO” to “HI” a couple of times but no joy. Will feel the pipes to check the system is fundamentally working and scan via CDIS to see what’s going on if all good.
Another update: drove the car the 150 miles from Buckinghamshire to my home in East Devon - managed to achieve 67mpg travelling at 65-70mph which I’m well chuffed with!

It was hot with no AC! I felt the AC pipes under the bonnet upon arrival and they’re not cold, so as the car had a new compressor only 7 years ago I suspect I have a slow leak from somewhere else. A UV tracer dye session beckons….

No aircon sucks. Hoping to fix mine by replacing everyting but the pipes next monday. If you use it regularly then you can tell when its fading to warm and need regas

Not exactly a before shot but close. The after will come a little later……

It had a full aircon service less than 6 months ago so I've definitely got a leak rather than needing a gas top-up.

The o ring inside the Schrader valves of the charging ports do get deformed over time and allow a small leak past them. AC specialists should be able to replace them after emptying the system by vacuuming it out , replace the seals, place the system under vacuum to prove no leaks then correctly recharge the system with the correct quantity of refrigerant and PAG oil.

I have a good friend with a garage in Chard who has offered to solve the issue for me using a tracer UV dye as I know it's a slow leak and hence the car past the leak-down test last time - I'll start there but definitely mention to shine the UV lamp around that area carefully - the other place I was thinking was the dryer as I understand this is also a common failure point.

It is possible to check the charging port Schrader valves yourself by removing the cap and applying a small amount of liquid into the recess of the port. If there is pressure in the system and any leakage past those valves will show as little bubbles. Blow out the liquid before refitting the cap.

@Erlingtheyounger has 2 A2s, one is a 1.2 Eco model only sold in mainland Europe. Over 100mpg is attainable. But before rushing to get one, note they have an automatic transmission that requires in-depth knowledge to keep "tuned".
Amongst other foibles!!!

We’ve just found some monkey at some point in its past has jacked it in the wrong place and made a whole in the floor right next to all the electrical gubbins!!! 😡😡😡

Very lucky more filth and water hasn’t got into it.
