Today I.....

today I installed a new battery in my 2001 1.4 AUA. Thanks to the forum on the guidance- far more involved than any other car I encountered. I suspect the replaced battery was original, so around 22 years old before it started to get a bit weak.

It'd be surprised if it were original battery, looks more like 5-6 years old, but I'm not sure. I thought mine was 20+ years too, but it was only the + cover. I go through 1-2 batteries in 5 years, so getting weak battery charge sounds about right by now.

That does indeed look like the battery the car left the production line fitted with. Audi have not branded A2 batteries since the A2 went out of production in 2005.

yes, it would surprising! But the Audi part number, Varta DE label and the general 'lack of disturbance' feel in that area made me wonder...

Today I changed the boot solenoid in CHAD
the previous owner said it was troublesome in hot weather, and I noticed the other day that you only get 2 shots at opening the boot, and then it needs a rest for 5 minutes before it’ll open again. New one was £15 on eBay and working well now😀

How difficult was it to change them over?

Today I bought 20 litres of 507 spec oil which was £81. Last November the same oil was £50 for the 20 litres which seems a significant jump. If all goes well, the next time I need more oil I'll be getting close to the 200k club.

Today I found a fuel receipt in the car from 2021. The diesel was £1-14/ltr & in the COVID shutdown it went to £1-00 / ltr for a time our way.

I paid £65 for Mannol 7715 from eBay not even 4 weeks ago but the same seller has raised the price to £98.49 now!!!

That's what I bought. There was a discount code which made it £81. Last time was a black Friday deal (from memory) still a bit cheaper than the big brands. Who know if the quality is as good...

Mannol is good stuff
I had a sample of this spec mannol tested at work in the lab against the Quantum Audi oil and there was only VERY minal differences which the lab stated could swing either way dependent on the sample taken. As that was the results from BAESYSTEMS lab then it was good enough for me, I stocked up on it 18 months ago. I do see the price go up and down, but the trend is upwards. I think other have cottoned ono to the quality and demad is higher now so the price is increasing.

Today I've received the G62 coolant sensor from Audi, which cost £50+o_O
I've decided to spend the money on it, as the 3 other aftermarket ones I had before, cost ~£10 didn't work as they were supposed, 2 of them didn't even fit.
Odd thing is the cheap ones came in boxes, the Audi one came in a plastic bag, so it'd have been squashed easily 🤨
At least its here, along with the new coolant, so when the rain stops for a day, I'll swap them over and fingers cross the temp will stick to 90C this time.

Any idea who it's actually made by as it obviously won't be Audi themselves?
Is there a manufacturers name on it other than the Audi rings as it would be good to know for others in the future who don't want to / can't afford to spend £50 on a temperature sender?
Don't you just love main dealer parts prices btw 🙄 and the plastic bags 😂
Fingers crossed it resolves your problem and works as intended 👍

Today I gave Audrey's old rear bumper a quick wipe-down and loaded it carefully into the car, ready to transport to my parents' in Berkshire ready for @birtyA2 to collect whenever he can. Some readers may recall I donated it to him and suggested a small donation to the forum in return - he very generously multiplied the number I suggested by a factor of 10 - thought that in itself deserves a shout-out once again!

Also I've had the bonnet drains off and flushed them through - they weren't on quite right and despite them being a little deformed, they're working well enough for now - a good free temporary fix until @Rickmeister sends me the new ones I've put on the January AT order - thanks again Rick.

Unfortunately dealers usually add +50% to everything and even saving on packaging
Hopefully it's gonna solve the wandering temp issue though, otherwise it's a thermostat job and I wasted my money now.
BTW I've just checked it and I'd payed £49+p 2 weeks ago, and now it's £59+p!! I recommend waiting a bit for the price drop or getting it from else where tbf. Good to see the brand marks on it, but that is really high price.

G62 coolant sensor: 059 919 501A
Locking clip: 032 121 142
O seal-ring: N 903 168 02

I was with a company that became a Teir 1 supplier to a major truck company. One of their employees at a meeting told me they bought a component for £14 but sold it for £140.
Nice work if you can get it.
