For the FSI-ers?

Bit of a newbie to the A2 type question.
I have an FSI and curious what the constant fan type noise is that seems to come from the engine bay while the engine is running.
At first i thought it was cooling fan running constant but it's not and the low level noise is still there even with the climate control off. Seems a bit too loud to be the PAS pump.
Any ideas?

It's not a known FSI trait so it's a bit difficult to diagnose from the other side of a keyboard.

Is it perhaps a noisy alternator pulley?

Does it go away when warm?
Is it related to the clutch at all?
No change with temperature. if there is nothing like any aux fan i don't know about on these then potentially it's just crank pulley harmonics, serpentine belt or the fact that the cambelts are very new. They were done by main dealer before i bought it.

I'd suggest the aircon compressor, on the A2 it is direct, belt driven, no clutch, if the engine is running, so is the compressor. Does the aircon work?
Mac.

Not a bad shout. I've learnt something, quite unusual to have no clutch in the AC compressor, always being a load on the engine and not very efficient is it! Could well be that giving that sound. Yes the AC all works fine

It's very efficient, the compressor has a variable pump action, so when not required, it runs at about 5%. So very little engine load. Variable compressor is better than one that is constantly switching on and off. All A2s have it, not just the FSI.
Good luck, and let us know what you find.

Have a read in the HVAC section of the pdf.
