New A2

They haven't done one I suspect.
May not be keen to work on the A2 FSI, even a quick glance on here would put them off, wouldn't it?
Is there anyone near Hull with vcds? No luck on the scan register.
Mac
@Radian try a new post asking if anyone near Hull can help you with a scan.
Mac.
Please help save this car!

Alternatively get your own VCDS. Ok may just be Lite unregistered version but at least that will point you in the right direction. The cost...well an old laptop with a USB port and a £10 KKL cable from ebay. VCDS Lite is downloaded FREE from the Ross-Tech web site.

This should be a legal requirement for FSI owners. Don't leave home without it!

Thanks for the advice, it was pouring with rain yesterday when I looked at the car. Just been out to look at the bodywork is in great condition the rear offside wheel arch has had some can respray that looks a bit patchy. the front pull down / access door isn't catching properly so Ill have a look at that. Overall really pleased with the car. It has S-line on the side of the door trim and front access panel.
Hi. Very nearly went for that one, it did look clean and well priced. Good luck with it

Don’t get any repair work done, until it's been scanned with a VAG specific scan tool, vcds ideally.
The FSI is not an engine to work on in the
"it might be ... so we'll change it and see"
school of mechanics. It'll cost you lots of pennies, and probably not fix anything. Scan, post the result here, and get advice on what to do next.

Agree, consider spending £300 on a Pro Boost ECU from Germany, fixed most engine gremlins on the FSI - see Steve Edwards in here or just do a search on Pro Boost, I want a good FSI at some point and will Pro Boost it no matter what the condition

Best to know what's wrong first, then you know if ProBoost is a solution, or not.
I'm not against ProBoost, it's an economical solution to several known FSI wows. I'm against spending money on parts, to fix an unknown problem, which it may not fix. Leaving you the poorer, and the problem.

Agree, I’d be having a PB whatever but best to diagnose and fix 1st

I found out earlier that there is a local garage in Hull that has two or more ex Audi mechanics so I will book it in.

Anyone know if you get a KKL lead from fleabay can you move the driver file to a USB stick once taken from the disc it comes with?
Just that the laptop I want to use for Vcds doesn't have disc drive

Only install the copy of VCDS that you download from Ross-Tech, not the one on the disc, (if there is one), the driver's OK though.

So,I just double checked with a seller about ability of transferring the drivers and that's fine.
However he's telling me I need canbus not KKL lead.
Is a 2003 A2 running canbus?

My 2004 isn't. He's mistaken, kkl is fine.
He probably thinks you've downloaded the non Lite version.
I'll repeat, don't plug the lead in, until the driver is installed, and you've done a restart. Failure to do that, and the lead will be allocated a default usb driver, which won't work, and the new driver will not be used.

Hi All the latest update is I had a scan on the car and it came up with the following
Manifold Change over valve P1031
Random multiple misfire P0300
Cylinder 3 P303
Fuel Pressure P1020
I know a mechanic who will look at it next week. The car is running but not well under pressure. And on top of all that the dreaded waring light and three bleeps there is a water leak. Never mind it can all be sorted as I want to keep the car for many years (that's the plan)

Good Evening Ian,

Your bed time reading.

Andy

Hi Andy, as soon as I get sorted with all the faults (fingers crossed) Ill give a step by step update that should help. However Is wont be until next week some time. The mechanic is away rally driving in Belgium at the moment lucky him, I did tell him not to speed.

Your mechanic should/must understand how the FSI engine works, and what is most likely to be wrong with yours, before any work is started.
I'd suggest you get a basic understanding, before he returns, then sit down together, and plan your next move.
Andy and I will help as much, or as little as you want.
The pdf below explains how the FSI engine works, when it in good working order.
The error code you have, P1031, refers to the flaps in the inlet manifold, so start around page 6.
