Oskar
A2OC Donor
Hi all
Finally got around to the simple job, that someone else has to actually do.
Took the wheels off to get balanced, and as this is the A2 with the most faults ever, it appears as though the wheel alignment is majorly out, and this also needs done, and has resulted in one front tyre needing replacement.
A rear was also showing some cracking, so it must be really old, so another replacement.
2 tyres, 2 balances, full alignment. Big cost.
However, much better to drive, and obviously much safer. My brother is about to take it on tour out West and down to Penzance, so it needs to work.
Alas, after the alignment, the steering wheel was not straight ahead. The wheel was on correctly (marks lined up), so it must have been in the adjustment. With the wheel off, for £27 I sourced a 3 spoke TT replacement, which is much better visually, and I think a little thicker. Very happy with the change.
All just plugged in perfectly. No adjustment, connector matches exactly, 20min job. You need a spline socket to get the wheel off. 16 I think it is....
The strange creaking noise I get when turning the front wheels seems to have subsided a little. I have looked at all parts of the front suspension, and am currently thinking it is the bearings on the top of the struts. Nothing else seems to be the cause, although the steering rack is hard to diagnose, but there is no 'feeling' in any way, just the noise, so I am less inclined to think of steering.
The noise is like one of the disc sheilds is contacting something, but I have checked and they are clear of the disc and other suspension elements. Very strange.....
