Regards Al

Procedure here:

Same as AMF etc as it is the same casting. Use new head bolts.

Hi Rab , thanks ANY is using fixed studs and nuts so gasket is same but surely stud material is different I might be wrong ...
Cheers Al

New nuts then! I looked up the specific instructions for an ANY and Elsawin mentions bolts! Yes, the studs go right down to the big ends.

Hi Rab, just spoke with my local vw dealer he looked up tightening procedure as 40,60 then 90deg,90deg,90deg and then backing off 90 deg .
Sounds weird to me ,do you know anyone who has done this , normally you tighten and not loosen , I am not too happy about 270 deg on top of 60 nm,,,Cheers Al

Your dealer is incorrect. Elsawin states 40Nm, 60Nm and then 90 deg twice, nothing more.

Well that was according to Elsawin 3.91. Elsawin 5.3 for a Lupo 3L (ANY engine) has something else.

Take your choice! Same for A2 1.2Tdi, not surprisingly! Just don't break any studs!

Hi Rab, so looks like these bolts are made of extremely high tensile steel ! , the nuts were not too tight to remove so this could be reason for slight leak ,I found carbon on underside of gasket in other words between gasket and engine block ,I could not find any warp-age to speak of , slight scratch in 3rd bore (this explains slight sump pressure ) So could it be incorrect torque before ? I have never had to apply such high torque except for audi diesel engine in 90,s that used stretch bolts. So I am going to wind when up later and hope nothing snaps .
Cheers Al
