hi all, it's good to be back :)

i now have a2 1.2 TDI, and found very nice rims with 5x100 bolts pattern. but stupid decision was made by audi to use 4x100 on only 1.2 TDI model. okay i can easily get donor car, (a2 1.4TDI) so what i will need to change from donor car? and will it even fits on 1.2TDI? like wheel bearing, brake disk etc

I have never owned a 1.2 TDI, so am not totally familiar with all the details. However, my understanding is that the differences start right at the top of the wheel arch. The suspension struts are different, and the way the knuckle/bearing carrier attaches to the strut is different.
The bearings are of a different size (62mm vs 72mm, if I remember correctly), meaning the knuckles would have to be changed, which means the whole suspension setup (and possibly subframe) would have to be tranferred from the 1.4 TDI. You'd lose the advantage of many more alloy components, the ride/handling would be affected, etc, etc.

You need to find some wheels that you like that have a 4x100 PCD, or you need to find a safe way of attaching 5x100 PCD wheels to a 4x100 bearing.

Cheers,

Tom

was thinking all i need is wheel bearing with 5x100 and same disk brake. looks like wheel bearing from 1.4TDI will not fits on 1.2TDI, i mean bearing center hole will be larger. right?

I can’t add anything to what @timmus has already eloquently said but I regard the 1.2 as a masterpiece of engineering, in each single component. Why challenging something so perfect, understated and balanced?
I agree the wheels are really small but it’s part of the package, like the slimmer wheel arches, that makes the 1.2 so unique and quirky. There are no half measures.

The 1.2 was not designed to look like a rocket but to take 4 people from Munich to Milan using only three litres of diesel ?

i understand you very well but it doesn't hurts to add little more beauty to this car ?

How does a car designed for 3L/100km manage 3L/495km? Stuttgart to Milan is around 500km!

I think that you are confusing the A2 1.2Tdi with the original VW L1 prototype?

You can fit the rims from the VW up!

Alcar 6795
5Jx14 ET35 4/100 57.1

mytyres list them for £27.80 each

You could fit:

165/70R14
175/65R14
185/65R14

and some other sizes too.

The standard 4.5Jx14 ET38 4/100 57.1 rim is shown here on an online Audi parts catalogue:

You could fit:

165/70R14
175/70R14 (oversize)
185/70R14 (oversize)

The 185/70R14 has the same outside diameter as a 195/60R15 and 205/50R16 tyre which some owners have fitted to the Audi A2.

Also consider 13" rims. The Audi A2 1.2TDI uses smaller 239mm diameter front discs, so 13" rims will fit.

239mm front discs are shown on autodoc.co.uk for the Audi A2 1.2TDI

Magnetto Wheels MW R1-978
5Jx13 ET38 4/100 57.1

You could fit:

175/70R13
185/70R13

The standard 145/80R14 is a very rare size. The only tyre I have found in this size is a summer Bridgestone B381 for about £55. The level of grip is low as it's a very skinny tyre. There doesn't appear to be any winter or all-season tyres in this size, so it really is worth considering a different size.

No. Example: the 1.2 is the only a2 with aluminium wishbones. It is a very different beast to the others.

I would also avoid adding any unsprung weight (i.e. oversize rims and tyres) as you'll feel it disproportionally with the 61PS at your disposal, never mind eco mode.
