Spot on, that was why I was asking. For shocks, on our 1.4i I fitted Bilstein B4 and had done with it. They've been excellent - fit and forget.
Original front shock part number is 8Z0413031AC.
Steve's questions are pertinent depending on the 34 or 42L tank option as the 1.4i switched over to the latter in later years, and the exhaust part and associated heat shields (I'm not 100% on this latter fact) vary as a consequence. Tank strap definitely does.

Does that mean that the fsi fuel tank heat plate will fit?Spot on, that was why I was asking.
I have a 2001 petrol breaking so could have helped but it's the 34l tank whereas your 2004 will have the 42L.
When I got the rear suspension refurbed, B4s all round again, and Febi Bilstein replacement parts for the lower spring rubber seats / top mounts - readily available on Ebay.Hi Robin, thanks for the info.
All of the front was replaced with new Sachs along with new springs and new top mounts and new wishbones as mine had rusted away.
I am looking to replace rear shocks and top/bottom mounts.
Cheers,
Paul

Since they're both 42L tanks, yes it should. That point on the exhaust is a long way downstream of any model-specific differences between 1.4 and FSI (e.g. NOX Cat).Does that mean that the fsi fuel tank heat plate will fit?
Cheers,
Paul

Will go for what you have suggested. Will probably replace the springs whilst I am at it.
