1.4 petrol cam belt & water pump

In terms of parts, install and fit I was in the region of £300 last time I did this a few years ago. I'm sure could be done cheaper but you pays your money and you takes your choice.

There’s 2 toothed cambelts and 2 tensioners on the petrol engine (both 1.4 and 1.6) which makes it slightly more expensive. I am informed that the shorter belt tends to wear more rapidly (the one that transfers drive between the camshafts).

Totally correct, I believe I have a photo of them here:

Hi - about £300-£350 if you use genuine Audi parts - cheaper if you use aftermarket items but I know which I would rather use
Cheers Dave

Hi - I agree but that’s not with a water pump I guess which is essential to change at the same time and would still use only genuine Audi parts for peace of mind - fitted a Gates kit to mine previously and definitely not as good to me (belt maybe but tensioners were noisier ) plus you have to factor in labour costs if you cannot do yourself
Cheers Dave

No need to pay genuine Audi on this one as they are available from the likes of Contitech Gates etc which were the parts used when they built them.
It's a 2 hour job for full cambelt water pump tensioners etc so should cost around £ 260 - £300 price range. Audi will be more but thats up to you. greywolfhound Gary in stains was an ex master tech at Vag, now installing Aircraft jet engines for BA for a living but also works from home specialising in our little A2's. I've had both mine done there a great bloke and keen prices. ?

Agree - if anyone can find a kit with the genuine INA bearings that would be perfect.

Thanks for that ? I have a local chap who has always done when I needed all our cars..but not the cheapest ..just looking at what others say on price I’ve always supplied my own parts he’s just charged out a low trade labour rate ..but that’s gone up a lot ..I’ve been recommended a young lad that’s keen to earn extra money weekends I have all the gear here at home ..at one time I did everything bikes as well but with my spinal issues I just can’t hack it ..☹
A full skf kit Inc water pump £120

Nope, that’s the complete kit with water pump, tensioners and replacement bolts. All fitted by @depronman

Excellent price for full kit but as I said in my experience not as good as original with an inferior water pump and if you are paying for labour to fit still quite an expensive job which you should repeat every 5 years . So long as your happy with the result that’s all that counts really

Mine was £283 when I had Barney done just after i bought him. That was a VAG specialist

the kit I fitted for Ian (bargepower) was a gates belt x2 and gates tensioners, the water pump I can't recall the make (Ian likely will), but it was the metal impeller (as against the plastic version which can slip on the shaft)
Was a good quality piece of kit, as I expected having used Gates kits for the last 35 years without a single issue

I understand that Audi used Conti belts of which I would takes a Gates belt over Conti any day of the week

Just my opinions gained over a long time with cars, each to there own

Cheers,
Paul
