Best to establish what's wrong, before deciding how to get it fixed.
I suspect the cat fault is historical and, once cleared, won't return. This opinion is based on the fact that the EML wasn't on, (so no emissions related fault), when the car was collected, and didn't come on during the long run home.
The EML came on, when the car had stopped and then restarted. The flap function is checked at startup, with the vacuum actuator vented at the first key position, then activated when the engine runs. This check failed, and triggered the EML.
The local VAG specialist, who @Pete667 is contacting will be able to check my theory ...
