1.6 FSi Broken Coil Pack plug tabs

Went to pull out the coil packs to look at the plugs but a previous cretin has broken all but one of the tabs so I cannot disengage the locking tabs. Does anyone know of a trick to disengage them with the coil packs so I can remove the plugs for a service? Judging by the fact that all the packs are original VW , chances are they broke a while back!

You don't have to disconnect the connectors to change the spark plugs, at least you don't on my FSI if I remember correctly. Flip open the cable retaining covers on the on each side on the cable tray that houses the coil cables, and free the cables. Pull the coils out to access the plugs, there is enough free cable to accommodate the length needed to extract the coils. Remove the oil filler for better access to the coil on the left hand side after first removing its breather pipe (which just pulls out).

Same story with my FSI, three out four coil connector release tabs broken off by previous butchers.

That was great! They indeed just have enough length in them to get the off and around. Have given everything a good clean. Any ideas for good plugs for my 1.6FSi? I was looking at some Bosch ones, currently using some Denso ones but mpg not great since using

Pleased you had success.

As to spark plugs Bosch are good, sorry can't remember part numbers but will add the wisdom recommends the four pole (prongs) is best for the our FSI.

Just purchased a set of four Bosch multi-prong plugs from CP4L, just wait for them to turn up :)
