1.6 FSI starting problem?

Hi, I've had my A2 for 2 weeks now and its been back twice already to the supplying garage:mad:. When I start the car with no accelerator the revs rise and then drop to almost stalling then they rise to a lumpy tick over. If I repeat this it gets worse each time and on the 3rd time the engine will stall when the revs drop. Sometimes the car stalls on the 1st start. The car also suffers from an intermittent flat spot.

The 1st time it happened the engine management light became lit. It seems to happen when the car has been driven and then the engine is left to cool for 15-30mins and the engine is then restarted.

It has been returned to the selling garage who had originally replaced the cam belt prior to me buying and they cleared the light and replaced the upper engine speed sensor. The car was returned and the fault reappeared.

The car was returned once again and they took it to an Audi main dealers who diagnosed the lower speed sensor as the cause which was then swapped.

Had the car returned and the fault is still occurring. They don't seem to know what the fault can be other than asking the Audi maindealers to investigate. Does anyone know of what the cause may be? I've searched this forum and there are many causes to bad starting and idling.

I have run it on 99 Ron fuel to see if 95 Ron was the cause but no difference. Since getting the car back a 2nd time the power steering pump is also noticeably noisier.

PS. I have informed them of rejection of the car but they have rejected it and offered to get it solved.

Cheers

The 1.6FSI has 4 ignition coils and these ones often become broken. Then one cylinder does not work or not correctly.

If its the coilpack them maybe damage to the cylinder has been caused if its been run like this for some time?

Would coilpack failure log a code? When the engine light came on a code was stored and the upper engine speed sensor was replaced by the supplying garage. However thet told me the code was for the Idle Control Valve? The second time the car was returned no code was found so the car went to an Audi main dealer who said the lower Engine Speed sensor needs replacing to fix. This was done by the supplying garage but the fault is still there.

As this is a difficult fault to fix its supports why I want he car rejected.

Cheers for the replies.

Hi, any answer to my above question?

Also would a throttle body clean be a possible solution?

Cheers for any info.
