1.6 fsi

I have had my 2004 1.6 fsi since april 2014, a few issues and couple of grand spent but will not be given it up soon, much superior to my 2.0 tdi golf match

There is a *lot* of information on here about FSI's. The need to run them on 98RON petrol. Their ability to dump all the coolant out at zero notice through failure of the "death pipe" hidden at the back of the engine. Their potential for great expenditure to keep the EML extinguished, which is needed to avoid MOT failure for all but the oldest of them. That said, there is also plenty written about the pleasures of a well-maintained FSI engine "on song", when everything is working as Audi intended. If you're looking for a car that will be cheap to buy and run, think again. If you're looking for one to restore, preserve and cherish then do your research and go in with your eyes open.

One thing I would add is ignore anything that the seller says "it just needs" - as @Proghound pointed out, these are complex beasties and I doubt anyone knows what an FSI "needs" even in the short term.

Also be aware that the FSI has a complex and unique exhaust system, which is long since out of production. There are no like-for-like replacement cats available, and you'll never get quite the same performance from a substitute.

PS ... #A2BA ? ?;)

Er... that's a remapped TDI75 like my other two ... unless you tagged the wrong post, or meant to tag the whole thread Jeremy?

Hi guys
I have now the 2 petrol A2. I quite like my 1.4, though if I knew before I wouldn't have lowered it, and now my FSI is running well.
I bought it for £800 spend £900ish to get nealy everything fixed on it, including the inlet flaps and while at it the "pipe of Death".
My 1.4 is a bit quicker to climb the rpm but then is limited. I caught myself in the FSI at 90miles/h without noticing and the car would keep going faster if I didn't.
About the exhaust, mine is quite noisy and I will probably ask @Teresa what she had installed on Mabel.
There is still few things to do on both cars but mostly cosmetics.
I'll keep enjoying the both of them and hope you will enjoy yours for a long time.
Cheers.

Glad you are getting everything sorted. I think a 1.4 and a 1.6 is a perfect combination ?
I had my exhaust done at Infinity Exhausts near Bristol
They custom make it there and then and you can choose how noisy you want the new one to be. I went there on Steve_c's recommendation as he had one fitted to his 1.4.
It is quite expensive (£800), and took them about 5 hours (bit of waiting about as it's in the middle of nowhere). But its guaranteed for the life of the car and really improved fuel economy and acceleration.
