A2 1.6 fsi

This is my very 1st message
Firstly i do hope u all had a good xmas 2 u all A2 club members.
Ive spent a small fortune on my A2,the rescent item i bought was a air mass meter(original part Bosch). Its fine when cold but as soon as the temp gauge hits the middle mark(90 degrees)its only half the car could this be a injector/s problem? The EML flickers then i assume runs on the safe mode which goes steady light.
Again once all cooled down the repeat of above starts all over again. Any suggestions please ps the car has done over 102,000 miles Cheers

The engine ECU adjusts the fuelling dependent on coolant and air temps so I'd start with a diagnostic scan to check for faulty temp sensors.

Hi Spike

A thousand apologies 4 not getting back 2 u sooner.
It appears I’ve been putting messages in the wrong places on the A2 OC ie...Private Messages it was my old woman who asked had I any word back on my queries

Mike did come back (co-Social Secretary) and asked 4 a load of info which I was able to give, I know you’re quite knowledgeable from your previous answers 2 other A2 members so if it’s ok will post the problems I am having @the mo’.

Below is my question to Mike:-

"Hi Mike

Thanks for coming back so quickly. I have had faults in the past with misfire across No2&4 cylinders-16686 and a multimisfire over all cylinders but slight,
Audi have re-newed new manifold, valve stuff ie...vac unit, sensor, air flap&EGR accuator, solonoid, throttle body, potentiometer all the waterworks thermostat pipes hoses.

I even recently had the waterpump, cambelt and power steering belt changed
which doesn’t relate 2 the above probs.

It was mentioned to give the Air Mass Meter a go but didn’t make any difference. They did say it could be a Camchain Adjuster NOT camchain which is making the car loss of power.

But for all the other Audi owners this would eliminate that diesel noise who in the past have complained about and, wait for it would cost u £1051.27
What about fuel injectors? If so why doesn’t it show up straight away instead of waiting for that 90degree mark as mentioned or last but not least i can think of ECU control unit?"

hi Dan---wow it makes my blood boil to hear about "stealer's" just changing a host of parts with no improvement!! i was lucky when i had my misfire problem in that the guy i used to trace the problem changed a host of parts-lift pump/hi pressure pump/egr valve/lambda/ecu/finally injectors--sorted.so i only ended up paying for the injectors.
my misfire was undetectable to me in driving the car for many months(5k miles)just it would put the light on.until one day i cleared the codes and that was it,it just refused to run on all cylinders and would only run if you kept the revs above 4k!
if you search on the internet you will read all sorts of horror stories regarding direct injection petrol cars sooting up with carbon deposits on the valves and this leading to running problems.the guy i used even put a bore scope down the plug holes and inlet tract to check on my engine and yes there are some but not nearly as bad to cause problems.in fact it was doing this he found that number 4 injector was not operating properly.at no point did any diagnostics show any errors or problems with injectors that includes dedicated Bosch equipment as well as full vag com.
i know all this doesn't really help in fixing your car but just wanted to give you info to help you get to the bottom of it.

i now come to the most alarming bit of your story regarding the Audi dealer--"it could be the cam chain adjuster" it doesn't have one!! its a dual cam belt system.
good luck mike
