15" pepperpot alloys and spacers

They have just arrived so I'll do some measuring but I do notice the 15" audi pepperpots do have a sizeable taper....*sigh* May need to go for 20mm instead or just leave as standard!

Ok so just popped the spacer on with the pepperpot to see how it fits just on front o/s.

Measured the flat area of the wheel versus the visible amount of hub on the car.

The flat area on the wheel is 7mm and I can measure a clear 4mm on the hub so I'm assuming therefore I have 3mm of hub in contact with the wheel?

Yes, just make sure the wheel is unable to move on the hub, if it is not located properly you will get vibration.

yup no movement and I'm getting about 6 turns on existing bolts - looking at it subjectively i think I may "have got away with it" but I guess I wont really know for sure until I take it out with all wheels on a go for a motorway drive

Maybe, with mine I felt the vibration through the seat at low speeds, it took a long while to work out where it was coming from and when I realised what was happening I still did not believe it could make such a vibration.

Here's a picture of my 535d with the spacers and hub extenders in place.

For those eagle eyed amongst you - yes the calipers are blue but I have the red ones ready to go in :p

So final conclusion is...5mm spacers fine for back, front ultimately were an issue as hubs at front don't seem as long as back. I got a very slight wheel balancing like issue which went when I removed from the front.

It's so slight that I believe 3mm spacers would have been fine but I'm not going there :)

Yup decided to leave for now and settle with what I have. Spending too much cash on the car so need to calm down a little :p

Hi guys,
I admit i´m a complete noob regarding wheel and tyre sizes....

Do you know if the pepperpot alloys from the Audi A3 (for example) are compatible with our A2's?

As far as my understanding, they normally mount a "bigger" 15" tyre (205/60/R15) while our A2 has smaller 15" tyres (175/60R15 or 165/65 R15)

So, every "pepperpot" alloy is the same and you can mount a different tyre? Or there are in fact different sized pepperpot alloys?

Thank you so much

Hi,

As nobody has answered I will have a go but I am no expert.

I expect they will fit as this old thread suggests, as long as they are 5x100 PCD (bolt holes in right place for our A2's) and the ET (complicated) value is in an acceptable range, (38 is good). You also need the big hole in the the middle to be 57.1mm. These values are stamped on the inside hub, even better to post a link to the ones you are thinking of buying.

As to tyres I suspect A3 cars have larger wheel arches so can take a 60 profile but you would be pushing it on an A2, running your figure of 205/60/15 they would be bigger than A2 17" by over an 1". Highly likely to rub. Play with this

I have A3 pepperpots with Cooper 185/65’s they are quite fat but are comfortable! Although I will be changing them for some A1 sports very soon.
