195/65/15 tyres

Can anyone tell me if these tyres will go on my car without any problems, I’ve got 175/60/15 on the standard forged alloys now, but I can get 195/65/15 of a friend for humble money but will they fit inside the arch without problems ??? Any advice please

Fairly certain, too big, they are 43mm larger in diameter than what you have now.

195/65x15 would be nearly 7½% greater diameter and rolling circumference than the reference size. That would cause noticeable under-read on the speedo.

The following six tyre sizes are about as big as you can go as far as the outside diameter of the tyre goes:

185/70R14, 195/60R15, 205/50R16

185/65R15, 195/55R16, 205/45R17

Go one size down on the aspect ratio and you get:

185/65R14, 195/55R15, 205/45R16

185/60R15, 195/50R16, 205/40R17

These last six tyre sizes have similar outside diameters to the standard A2 tyre sizes.

My preferred tyre size for the A2 is 185/65R15 on 5Jx15 ET28 5x100 57.1 steel rims. It's a very cheap tyre size with an enormous range of quality tyres including Michelin Primacy 4, Continental PremiumContact 6, Continental WinterContact TS860, and many others. It's very comfortable, low drag for more mpg, yet with enough grip. Fitting the 185/65 tyre to a narrow 5" rim makes the sidewalls flex more easily for even more comfort. The 28mm offset moves the tyre to the outside of the wheelarch for that sporty look.

Do you have any pictures of your setup?
I’m contemplating to switch to this size tyres. Look forward to your reply.

Duncan I only have one picture of that set up and it's a side view, many members, except one, told me I would have problems with the tyres rubbing and a false read out on the speedometer, I didn't have any problems with mine, I travelled from Merseyside to Windsor with 3 in the car and a boot full of luggage and I think it bottomed out on the rear maybe
twice, I was also told by several mathematicians the speedo would give inaccurate readings, however I checked over several speeds with a digital phone app, when the speedo showed 70mph the digital showed 71/2 mph and the digital overspeed decreased even more at lower speeds, a word of caution though your front wheel arch liners must be in good shape and fitted precisely other wise the tyres will touch, the wheels you see are off a VW golf, if you need anymore info let me know.

Not wishing to preach at all but I don't quite understand this post as you start off saying that you were warned of potential problems by members that were incorrect, then you state that you have experienced/are experiencing all of the problems you were warned about?

You state that when loaded up and going over speed bumps you are getting 'bottoming out' which is where the rear tyres are rubbing the inner rear arches because they are too tall, your speedometer is under reading by 1.5mph at an indicated 70mph on your speedo when you are actually travelling at 71.5mph confirmed by GPS because your tyres are too tall and the rolling circumference is too large and finally that the front tyres rub the inner wheel arch liners on full lock agdin because they are too tall.

These are the three things that I and other's warn people can happen if you fit tyres that are too large, as these clearly are!

Just because your car is drivable and there isn't constant fouling, that doesn't mean these are right or at all suitable, as in fact they are very wrong and most probably illegal too!

So anyone contemplating buying and fitting this 195/65 15 size of tyres, don't as they are too big and just fit tyres that fit correctly without any fouling or speedo under reading, which I'm quite certain is highly illegal ??
