"2 Faults Found: 17912 - Intake Air System P1504 - 35-10 - Leak Detected - Intermittent...

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone is staying well and healthy!!!

In order to make your life more interesting during the lock down I throw away this puzzle to dwell on.

This error EML light reappears every 2 months or so during the last year:

"2 Faults Found:

17912 - Intake Air System

P1504 - 35-10 - Leak Detected - Intermittent

17573 - Long Term Fuel Trim Additive Air; Bank 1; Range 1

P1165 - 35-00 - System too Rich

Readiness: 0000 0001"

My impression is that the light appears when I brake suddenly at the point where I have to change for a lower gear. It is kind of. Otherwise I do not see any other reason to think about.

Since my understanding of the cars is worse than that of the computers I understand the fault as the engine either receives more air than it is necessary to mix a proper air/petrol mixture OR some sensor(s) do not function properly.

The point to bear in mind is that the engine 1.6FSI BAD was reconditioned this February yet this fault, that started to appear last year, emerged already 3 times after
reconditioning.

After reconditioning the engine started to sound like an Apache helicopter - wush wush wush wush - a very pleasant quiet understated sound of an autumnal drizzle in a windless day.
It was not like this before reconditioning at all - it sounded like a small lorry.
When the EML light is on the engine sounds more like a diesel engine.
It does look like that the fuel/air mixture is not proportioned and the engine sound

The garage where they usually do the repair with my A2 is still closed so I have not yet discussed the issue with the mechanics.
Their faces become sad when I bring my A2 for repairs because "this xxxxxx car's engine is so tight" yet during the years they
had done the work on it they are slowly getting there, so-to-say.
Therefore I would like to hear all possible opinions of the honourable members of the forum before I talk to them.

What would be the parts that you would have looked at had you have the same fault?

Many thanks indeed!!!

Are they vcds codes, or from a generic reader? If not vcds, then a scan with vcds is needed.
Assume you've cleared the codes, just in case they are historical?
Mac.

Hello Mac,

thank you for looking at this mystery!!!

My understanding is that it was that VCD.

Here is its copy&paste:

Interestingly, there was found another fault with the climate control:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 08: Auto HVAC Labels: None
Part No: 8Z0 820 043 E
Component: A2-KLIMAVOLLAUTOMAT 0514
VCID: 38750CA8182E3846F3-256C

2 Faults Found:

00716 - Air recirculation Flap Positioning Motor (V113)

41-10 - Blocked or No Voltage - Intermittent

01273 - Fresh Air Blower (V2)

17-10 - Control Difference - Intermittent
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for me the climate control works perfectly; the air goes from all the vents; the air is cool as I want it
to be or it is warm as I want it to be.

I do not think that these faults are somehow connected even if that both of them involve "air"...

Mac.

...the code was cleared on the day the car was scanned, i.e. on the 3rd of May this year and it reappeared on the 20th of May.

Something i would look into on the RossTech Forums is MAF readings and AFR(Air, Fuel ratio.) Through VCDS. It should tell you what measuring blocks you need to look at and that'll tell you if you're running to lean or rich either below 3k revvs or above/under load. Hope this helps, Regards Jack.
