2 stroke oil in diesel...anyone tried it?

Has anyone got a neat way of adding 200ml of whatever additive to the tank?
My 1 litre bottle of Liqui Moly has 100ml markings up the see through side, this will be go little use to me in low light conditions. If I carry a 200ml measure I then have an oily measure to store somewhere in the car ... which I don’t fancy. My Liqui Moly is going to last a very long time.

It is not TOO clear from our members if there is much benefit to adding this to the fuel? There would be no harm in giving it a go, I suppose .... It is a reasonable outlay (£27) and it would take me back to my experimental days. I would have liked to have heard a few more positives on the A2OC, though!

David - for me I'm now half way down the second tank. My perception is that although the overall engine sound is similar, the tactile feel in the car (through the hands, pedals and seat), particularly at the low end of the rev range is smoother. No noticeable smoke when accelerating with headlights behind etc. This is admittedly empirical observation but I believe indicative of a trend.

Funnily enough I topped up my tank without adding more oil and I can almost feel the edge of smoothness going - not massive but I will add when topping again probably in the next couple of days

Hmmm part way thro a tank pf Asda diesel woth 2 stroke oil added.
Not sure about any noise improvement but consumption worse than when running on Shell.
Lets see????

Well finished the tank of Asda n 2stroke and unimressed with consumption.
Filled with Shell n 2 stroke and consumtion seems better.
Cannot say ots any smoother or quieter than before. However first few tanks after purchase were laced with Stanadyne Diesel Additive and that gave a marked improvement in noise n smoothness.
Once 2 stroke is used up I think I will revert to Stanadyne, maybe every other fill.

Taking the time to look back over this long thread, there are a LOT of positives in the earlier stages. There are many mentions of a quieter engine and other benefits such as better starting and a smoother engine response. It seems to be only the more recent posts that aren't showing the same conclusions ....... or at best are indicating that there are no obvious changes to the way the car is running? So I wait until I can come to my own conclusions and, of course, I'll be sharing my views with this club!

@timmus Tom, as a long term user, how do you dose it?

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

My A2 has the 34-litre tank, so I need 200ml of 2-stroke per tank. I bought 10 plastic 200ml bottles from eBay. I decant 2 litres of oil into the 10 bottles and keep them in the boot of my car. This means I get 10 tanks of fuel - roughly 4200 miles of driving - before I need to decant another 2 litres.

Cheers,

Tom

I had some low ash 2 stroke oil in the garage so I poured in the recomended 200ml on two tank fills. Struggled to detect any apprecaible benefits, convinced myself the car ran a fraction smoother.
Got some Motorex 2T semi synthetic and poured some in. The car is definitly running smother now, however it is too early to say if there are, and its the wrong time of year to look for, fuel consumption improvements.
Either this oil takes a little while to be effective or you do need Motorex 2T or equivalent.

I tried the 2-stroke trick and have to say its made a remarkable difference, the engine doesn't shudder anything like it used to and is so much quieter. I got it from morrisons and had most of the standards as described above, without the ISO: EGB, will get full spec next time. Also fixed my starter motor, thanks to everyone involved in those threads, and with these little tweeks it sounds and behaves like a much newer car. Just got my diesel geek bushing kit today for the cable ends/links under the gear shifter and hopefully that will sort out my sloppy shifting..... if not its a gearbox issue.

That's just what i want to hear! There's been a lot of recent comment as to there being not too much beneficial effect, so it's good to hear something positive! I've got the oil ready and I'm going to start dosing, soon! I'll be reporting to the A2OC, of course ....

On my 1989 Mercedes 250TD I have been using 2-stroke oil for more than two years. I am a believer!
We bought an A2 1.4TDI as a short-distance slave, in order to go easy on the old fellow. ;)
Although they say that using the 2-stroke oil with the modern fuel injection system in the A2 does not make as much sense as using it with the old Mercedes system, I'll start using the mix.
Ciao

O.K. First fill-up today with oil-addition. There was an immediate and obvious change to the engine note! Reduction in harshness and a quieter and more mellow sound. I would say that the car is now pleasant to drive. I will report on any change in starting or noticable smoke in due course .....
